Just do a Dual Boot fam, its like Hannah Montana. The best of both worlds.
Yeah gonna be getting a new 512 ssd and will probably do this
outdated and not as secure as windows
Those are basically the only two reasons Linux is better than Windows (at least for certain usages)
Couldn't have written a more misinformed response even if you tried it
But yeah for general usage is pretty good, for coding is definitely better (unless you're doing something MS specific)
But everything else I'd rather stay on Windows tbh. Especially productivity and gaming.
Anyway, if you want to try a gaming distro go for Ubuntu or Pop OS (Ubuntu fork).
Other interesting options are Deepin (nice MacOS - like UI), and KDE Neon (advanced desktop environment and huge customisability).
linux isn't that good in a desktop setting unless you're doing a lot of non-gaming/not-gpu related activities
it's amazing for servers though
and this is wrong now, not that i blame you because there was almost no reason to think it would get any better back then
S***ty because windows is better for gaming
definitely not true at ALL anymore, thank god
Is gaming gonna get any better on Linux? I've heard it can reach better performance than Windows even on games that aren't well supported but idk ur experience.
it sure did :)
gonna bump
I went to a lan party a month ago
actually pretty cool having 16 ppl playing CS together
anyway one dude had Linux running and was basically able to play every game with us
Proton really starting to even up the score

not even anymore bro. games been performing better through proton a majority of the time than on windows, aside from DX 12 games on nvidia gpus (which is Nvidia's fault btw). been that way for a while now

re: gpu related activities
I don't know how true this necessarily is, I know a lot of extremely experienced video encoders on private trackers that primarily use VapourSynth/AviSynth+ for encoding movies and Arch is surprisingly very popular for this
I agree that generally Linux isn't all that great for desktop but I'd absolutely take a mature linux distro like Debian or even Arch over the piece of s*** Windows has become in recent years

+1
I kinda hated desktop linux for years because it just didn't compare to Windows and MacOS in terms of quality and it was always very very janky so I never paid it much mind besides servers and secondary laptops
But recently, I started coming back to Linux for my main gaming rig as a daily driver because I noticed Windows has started to get a lot buggier since they announced the AI coding s*** and that initiative on part of Satya Nadella and co. really creeps me out especialy with the stuff about becoming an "agentic OS" which means they want to hand over more and more control from the user to AI "agents" as a middleman
I don't want to slowly lose control of my own PC over time so I decided to move over to Linux full-time
I've ran the gauntlet over the years from Ubuntu/Debian to Arch and Gentoo and I always end up sticking with Arch tbh
I also have a Steam Deck so I've seen the progress Proton and Wine have made over the years and that has me very excited, especially for their new slate of hardware and the future of Linux Gaming, it's evolved a lot since 2020
