Gossip magazines got replaced by s*** like the Shade Room and other internet pop culture pages.
Celebrity worship is still there everything is just on the internet so you have more ways to avoid it
YouTube and unironically Kim Kardashian / Paris Hilton forever changed what celebrity could be which is now exacerbated by twitch.
It's way less celebrity worship out here than it was back then in the gossip magazine pandemic and I stand by that hill
I’d argue it’s worse because nowadays they worship and stan regular hoes.
Lil Durk, Moneybag yo, and Lil Baby’s chicks all have fanbases and women who worship them
It hasn’t been 100 years maybe 70ish. The tides have already shifted tbh. Kids don’t idolize celebrities anymore they idolize streamers which isn’t any better
Steamers just another word for celebrity
literally just this. I got teenage cousins who stan Zendaya and s*** so I see it firsthand.
Nah these are facts, there are so many vast subcultures now that there's an abundance of multimillionaire creators you probably will never hear of lmaoo
This thread lowkey just showing some folks age and the bubble some other posters live in.
Folks today are still absolutely obsessed with celebs, just not the ones this site would pay attention to
i remember they got on ur head in that one thread for saying young niggas are going to go play Carti or some of them opium niggas before Drake

Yea I think today it’s just less noticeable. But yes that love for celebrities still exists and actually may even be worse now with more access to celebrities and their content. Just look at how Taylor and Travis are running a BAG. Another example would be someone like Kanye who sold $150M worth of shoes in 3 days after crashing out on Jews. That celebrity infatuation still exists
This convo reminded me of these comments from Natalie Portman earlier this year
variety.com/2024/film/news/natalie-portman-movie-stars-youtubers-1235918662
From the same article
Ana de Armas told Vanity Fair herself last year that the movie star was a faded concept.
“I feel like the new generations don’t have that concept, because of social media,” de Armas said. “There is so much information out there and oversharing. The concept of a movie star is someone untouchable you only see onscreen. That mystery is gone. For the most part, we’ve done that to ourselves — nobody’s keeping anything from anyone anymore.”
celebrity worship is a lot more decentralized and not as homogenous in the days where tabloids and sensationalist articles would float around, but there’s still cult of personalities that exist around basically anyone with any sort of fame for something to an extent

Exactly. I don’t engage with a lot of s*** so I don’t see it but there’s Stan pages dedicated to mfers like Tate McRae and I never heard a song of hers in my life lmao
We got kids stream sniping Speed who was on a boat and pulling up to buddy in small boats/canoes. This s*** is even wilder today thanks to access. Like people are tracking celebrity flights today and checking/following their entourages story’s just to stay connected every day to this person

In many ways, celebrity culture it isn't what it used to be. Before the internet and paparazzi, celebrities existed in sort of their own dimension, separate from commoners. The only time they were seen were in performances which were almost exclusively an upper class experience, only time they were heard from was very scarce interviews, or quotes in papers, we knew virtually nothing about their personal lives or childhoods like we do with Wikipedia. Seeing them really did feel like seeing a star up close. Your average persons interest in them was also more balanced because we didn't have social media to keep tabs on their every action, or the opportunity to create an online persona that revolved around stanning and shilling them. You might say they were held to a higher standard.
Today, depending on the celebrity, there's a bottomless amount of coverage on not only their personal and professional lives, but also their entire adolescence and road to stardom. Nothing is sacred with them anymore. Modern stars want to be seen as a peer to your average consumer for one reason or another, and are very casual about sharing the happenings in their personal lives with the world in both interviews and social media. Nothing wrong with a person wanting to be transparent in a vacuum, but I think it has had an almost exclusively detrimental effect on the way they are seen.
Maybe something to be said about them promoting themselves first hand, and not needing agents as much anymore? Probably just comes with the modern territory of social media. Thats also how we got to them being icons for product placement.

Niggas saying celebrity culture dying out when Travis Scott doing s*** like this in 2024
I say all that to say - the problems of celebrity culture lie in both celebrities giving us way more of themselves than is really needed, and fans for following them so obsessively.
Go on any pop stars or movie stars social media page and you will see this is not facts brother
I’m Gen Z and everyone I know in my generation still treats celebrities like celebrities lmao, idk why y’all think this on here
