She just gassed up by industry and media bullshit cuz she riding the PC girlboss / black girl magic wave right now even though 10 years ago, she catered to white girl trends with dogshit like Halo and Irreplaceable

Adele just got a super dedicated fanbase that buys her s*** but she’s not routinely being gassed up like Beyoncé every day. She’s not even close to as overrated as her.

Not the biggest Beyonce fan but she holds the place she does because she’s been making high quality music and evolving her sound for like 25 years.

Crazy disingenuous to imply she’s riding some sort of trend when she’s been a megastar long enough to see multiple eras of trends rise and fall.

Can’t even say I’ve heard her most recent album but I imagine despite using different/more/whatever writers than the last albums it still feels like a Beyonce album. Its clear she’s a unifying force in her music

He kinda reminds me of Mario Balotelli.

Given every single possible tool to succeed, very talented as well. But ultimately doesn’t give a s*** and will fade into obscurity, leaving very little worth remembering.

Clearly he doesn’t want to be making music for a living and should just stop altogether

That people enjoy Ed Sheeran’s music.

I don’t enjoy Bey, Frank’s, or Ed’s music. I don’t like any of them. But it seems two of them have music that is intrinsically more valuable to society.

if you seriously think musics value to society is determined by how it’s charting on Billboard, then you need to be checked into an asylum

uh you talking about me or him? because he definitely did lol, he twisted everything i said and disregarded my whole point to begin with

I want to hone into you ‘true musician’ take..

First and foremost I’m a musician/vocalist and a lot of my peers and I have these sort of discussions during our shredding sessions after class.

A lot of instrumentalists (I use to be this way as well) have this perception about vocalists and their merit as musical artists.. it’s a sort of dismissive tone and through the years I’ve come to realize that the level of virtuosity is not specifically measured by the prowess of your skill as an instrumentalist/producer/vocalist on a ‘technical’ level , but instead by your level of MUSICIANSHIP.. the ability to ‘think in sound’. how do you perceive internally and in the imagination, whether through playing by ear, singing, sight reading reading from notation, or through improvisation. The medium isn’t as important as the sonic experience being created..

Let’s use Beyonce for example.. she may not play an instrument, understand notation ..probably couldn’t recognize dynamic markings, but she has a musicians ear and incredible interpretive wit.. they innate ability (without formal training)..

Her ears knows how to recognize intervals and chord qualities.. she regularly conjures up complex melodies and unorthodox rhythms on the drop of the dime at any meter and tempo..

Tbh because I understand both sides
Some of the most compelling musical compositions I’ve heard recently has come from vocalists.. can you imagine if some of the vocal productions/arrangement was actually notated as sheet music.. get an instrumentalist to play it you’d lose your mind..

Get a 20 piece ensemble to play this composition .. crazy

Musicianship isn’t contingent on the medium that u use to express, but the overall experience created

Take this showcase for an example:

    Insane intervals !!

The way she uses her voice in a musical way.. that colors and shape the piece adds the same visceral effect that I’d get from Cory Henry going crazy to ‘Heart at Midnight (not to the same effect) but you get my point.

I hope be in making sense.

let me stop you right there to say i 1000% do not have this perception about vocalists and i am a musician/vocalist myself lol. i edited my post to take true musician out. there are plenty of vocalists/composers that i love... i saw caroline shaw/roomful of teeth a few years back and last night at Frank's set someone played a keyboard rendition of Kim Burrell's vocal from Godspeed and it was truly magical, she is a beast and the complexity and beauty of that was put on full display with that moog solo

that all being said Beyoncé is probably not composing most of any of her music, not with her voice or anything else, and is possibly doing her vocals to a reference track, plus she has had this claiming-to-write-her-own-music-but-not-actually problem since the beginning of her career, ironically. the favorite track that i keep mentioning, plastic off the sofa, was written by syd among others and there very well may be a full reference track of syd doing all the showstopping melismas on there. it sounds like a song syd brought in to the sessions. that's the point i was trying to make with my post. it doesn't matter whether Beyoncé only uses her voice or not, Michael Jackson has arranged songs by directing musicians with his voice. it's that all signs point to Beyoncé not doing this, at least not for many of her songs. i still love her voice and skill, im talking about giving credit where credit is due. that's all. if we were talking about say Liberace who could play a bunch of songs at a high level but didn't compose anything, but then he came out with an album of "original" songs, id keep the same energy, trust. i also admit that a lot of this is speculation when it comes to Beyoncé, that and hearing leaks/reference tracks already made for her/the controversy about her faking authorship earlier, so I could be wrong and she contributes significantly even when she's brought a song.

Tyler can't exactly play piano at a very high level (although he has gotten better, it doesn't seem like he practices that much) but neither could Ravel. they're both great composers either way. instrumental ability doesn't equate to compositional brilliance, although it does help
