I tip all the time for good service. but lets not act like waiters will only make $2 an hour if you dont tip

At Outback Steakhouse where I worked, it was minimum wage + tips. Maybe it's different in other restaurants.

    proper

I feel like anyone who’s worked in restaurants will tip at other restaurants cause we know how s***ty customers can be lol.

    100%.

It is unbelievable how entitled people can be when they go to a restaurant.

As long as they're tipped I agree. But that's why it's important.

True to a point, but there's also another way of looking at it.

In Europe servers make good money, but the service is trash. That's fine, I don't need a server to be fawning over me to feel special. When I was there it was understood you just tip your change and everyone is happy.

In America it's different. If you can only afford to go to garbage restaurants you should tip in solidarity with the servers who can only find these bad jobs.

The plus side is serving CAN be a great job, if you gain experience and get in at a great restaurant you can make a good living....off of tips from people who have the money and aren't cheap about it.

yup last point is kinda crucial tbh

i served tables for a while. most servers you ask would not give up the tipping system. i think a stable pay would be much more beneficial in the long term, but there is real money in serving if you work in the right place and find your groove

Just curious what type of haircuts you're getting? Last time I got a proper haircut it was still $20, but it's been a min so I guess it could just be inflation

Why do servers act like their entitled to tips?

They aren't entitled to s***. They have to work for it. But if they do the best they can and do everything you ask of them in a timely manner and the customer still doesn't tip atleast a little? They an a******.

It could be as simple as not using those services from companies which don't pay full wages

you don't need a union, but yeah the populace is ignorant

Americans are used to eating out so they probably won't give this up; private business subsidizes their eating habit while the worker gets pegged

The fact we have someone literally arguing to tip bad waiters 15 percent. Lmao, the entitlement.

Servers in America get on these soapboxes and start speaking like entitled panhandlers.

"IT HAS TO BE 20 PERCENT"

Literally arguing about some arbitrarily set charity wage you get from a customer that scales with the price of the customers order.

I don't even know how you can be a rational being and argue tipping a bad server 15 percent. You're just being annoying, stop posting.

People tip waiters because its customary. They are not barbers, delivery drivers, or taxi drivers.

They're the dudes at JFK who ask you for tips after baggage checks.

Like how did you get 20 pages out of this topic

I served and bartended. As a bartender yeah let's keep the tipping custom. As a server those slow days where I only got 2-3 tables and the tips were just a couple of bucks or nothing had me questioning everything

For sure, it's a tricky thing.

The truth of the matter is all servers should be paid at least minimum wage, minimum wage needs to be much higher, and people should still tip.

Do you anti tippers not tip bartenders either?

    Bartenders mix drinks lmao.

And tips are usually given because you appreciate the person you're engaged in.

You are literally talking about tipping some bad waiters at least 15 percent.
I had a waiters put a plate on my friends lap, why the f*** would we tip her.

Do some of you really live life going "I tipped my barber after he f***ed up my lineup"

tipping is a totally cool thing if you like someone’s service but i don’t like that’s become a stand in for wages
