the left is not liberalism, its not a set of ideas or principles. practically its still the movement against imperialism and colonialism by the anti-imperialists and anti-colonialists. european social democrats are not the left, when they do not oppose imperialism and actively benefit from it. you are confused because someone told you once that "labor zionism" was a "left-wing" ideology and you believed them.

Came out during a time when homophobia was very much still accepted in hip hop when he was a hip hop adjacent artist. All of that is negated because he sells jewelry?

less than 1% of billionaires are black and i agree they could do sm more for their communities but even if just the people around them get richer and then those surrounding them, in theory “everybody eats”

the left right political spectrum changes with time. CLASSICAL liberalism itself is right wing yes but modern liberalism in the US is considered left wing because in liberalism its often used as a catch all term for left wingers. its associated with the left wing of the political spectrum, just not as far there as leftists. more center left.

black capitalism in itself is already anti-establishment, and while i do agree it embraces some right wing ideas it also encourages a lot of left wing ideas, so instead of grouping every rapper together because they make pop music talking bout popular things (brands, parties, d****, etc) and for every Baby in the world there’s a Mavi, u just have to look for it if that’s what u want to engage with
nah black capitalism is, again, well-intentioned, with some good philosophical ideas, but ultimately illogical. participating well in capitalism might free you from some oppression as an individual but it only furthers capitalism which will always only further oppression and violence in the bigger picture. it's not a game you can win. everyone loses

I mean I don't disagree the signs were always there - they for sure were punk, anti-conforming, not playing by the rules in many ways (including expressing their sexuality at a time when it was still extremely dangerous)
I also said I grew up that I read them as progressive (which in many ways they are) which is the antithesis to conservatism also. I said this as an example of how I changed my mind on reading the signs I got from them, like you said the contradictions were always there
