Yeah or Ovrkast, Mavi, Kenny Mason, Yonny, Samara Cyn, Serious Klein, Draft Day, AZChike etc.

Now some of these artists are poppin in their own right and got lil movements but still not bursting like at least how I think they should be and these rappers I named are like 2010s era with a newer/they own twist and some new interesting ideas while still being "real" n spittin but also creative and "artistic"

Old niggas that are stuck online want either really esoteric "real rap" quirky s*** or they want lofi gangster recycled s*** - it makes no sense to me

No one knows what they want and the genre has literally skipped a generation in time while eating itself like an ouroboros

Lot of crabs in the bucket mentality I see a lot to nowadays in Rap with both the young and old niggas, it's nasty

none of them niggas got it

    Again

lmao i was up north east kendrick drake meek mill n j cole were the standard @ the time around here only few niggas were really hip

That’s facts unless you had some internet baby friends &/or young homies

    flootures

Idk I think the problem is two-fold

Think "regions/regional rap" got s***ted out by RAPPER/MUSICIAN LABELS cuz it's easier to farm. they just prowl their scene for potential competition, and sign whoever they deem worthy into complacency and bad deals, f***ing their career from jump. They might get some easy fast food singles and GRWM tiktok themes, but don't push past that generally

Whereas LABELS in their normal state are s***ting out the INTERNET as its own region, and signing niggas/kids in high school with literally a few songs released and hoping for the best off their own engrained fan base, or by using their easily accessible ad-revenue-based lanes, like pushing for pitchfork reviews, twitch streams, and fan page interaction/management.

Depends on who's asking what "cool" is anyway. More standard middle of the line rap fans aren't going to like a 18 year old's output that's rife with niche internet references and waxing platitudes about skipping class, girl troubles and s***. They're probably not gonna find someone inspired aesthetically by "punk/rock/anarchy" and internet forum culture as cool. And vice versa, because the young niggas are tired of generic flexing, money phones, and strippers in the video as the entire aesthetic. All of it is manufactured by whoever's "team" as well. I'd get more upset at bad teams for rappers than the rappers themselves

Finally someone points out how f***in stupid these guys’ teams can be

objectively speaking, hip hop is a shell of its previous self

which is fine i mean the genre itself is old - like 45 years old now. hopefully the youth of today find a new musical genre to be cool after fumbling the hip hop bag so badly

Exactly why Rap is dead and the labels and the streaming algorithm is distancing itself while the only raps songs to make it to the the top 10 streams of the day or top 40 billboard are niggas that have been around for 11+ years

    Again

it’s a shame cos everyone you mentioned would be xxl freshman contenders a decade ago

And so many young niggas of the 2020s hate on any rapper of any style because they also wannabe rappers so bad

Or old niggas of the 2020s hate on any rapper of any style because they weren't able to be the rappers they wannabe so bad

S*** got so "content creation" consumed and everyone thinks everyone is a "threat" or some kind of weirdo competition n that they think they running in the same race even tho over half of them are scared to drop a song with a forever "coming soon" in their bio/posts

  • Oct 29, 2025

Everyone thinking they a Rap artist or Rap producer killed Rap too, due to the consumer audience now becoming wannabe professional critiques and wannabe competitors

yeah why aren’t these old heads championing mike, el cousteau, or even jid. probably cos thy not gangsta the last traditional ngas they accepted were griselda n marciano

Mike is really jarring when you first hear it and doesn’t really sound super traditional. He’s rapping really good but a old person may be thrown off with how different it is
