The director/A24 producer showed up and said they're about to start prioritizing work on it. They confirmed it's a different story in-world with different characters.

They showed a trailer of sorts for the animated film though, and gave some hints at the main character.

I’m wondering what the tone of the movie is gonna be like.

The game is about walking and the journey. With a 2 hour experience youre gonna have to jump around quite alot
