    huh? what is 'fictitious capital'?

and in your original post you just said capital can't generate wealth
    that is blatantly untrue
you can't make a general statement like that and then say 'oh no I just meant this specific piece of capital can't do that'

we're clearly talking about the stock market in this thread, so why would i be talking about anything other than tht

    Synopsis

we're clearly talking about the stock market in this thread, so why would i be talking about anything other than tht

well you said capital not the stock market lmao

and you understand that theoretically the stock market is providing capital to these firms who then use it to generate wealth and shareholders benefit from this wealth. obviously by buying a stock someone isn't creating wealth but theyre providing that firm with capital who then generate wealth. its why people look at financials and etc they want to see what company can generate the most with their investment
you're right in that stuff like this isn't capital generating wealth its just pushing money around but that's not why the stock market exists

Some predatory hedge funds had crazy shorts on gamestop that were putting consistent downward pressure on the stock. When you short, you're betting on something to go down. Even though things were kinda looking up for them, there was so many shorts in place that it couldn't really recover.

Till redditors pumped the almighty f*** out of it, liquidated alot of the hedge funds shorts. And then since they've bought up basically all the stocks, they can sell at whatever price they want. Can charge absurd amounts to the hedge funds who want to get out lmao

    It's awesome

So is it too late to ride this wave? Not GME specifically but can the redditors pull off something similar again?

AMC maybeeeee but I wouldn't touch Nokia tbh
all of those other stocks are people riding on this momentum to try and pump up the stock and then sell it off for a quick profit. GME was actually a somewhat justified situation because A) the financials indicated that the shorts weren't valid and B) the shorting of it was absolutely absurd so its a legitimate move to push the stock price for when those hedge funds need to close and buy (because when they need to buy you're able to sell it to them for a profit while they take a massive loss)

for Nokia and etc the stocks are shorted but not anywhere near the same extent that GME was so essentially you're just hoping the stock price gets pushed up by people getting excited and buying some in the hope of the same thing happening

Yeah I was tempted to ride this wave but the better thing to do is read up on businesses that are getting shorted at an unreasonable level and see if there's any organized momentum to buy in. This WILL happen again, it worked too well the first time, but most short squeezes aren't like this. It will take some time before we see another one like this.

probably not and you’re gonna see a lot of pump and dumps now

This was more a f*** up by the hedge fund than anything

as in a ton of people shilling a stock so it rises and then selling off putting the loss onto people who hold on too long
