Anyone calling this a flop is a hater. I don’t even like Weeknd but didn’t his last album do some similar with less promo this time around? He’ll end up like Doja Cat more than likely. Decent fw sales and then pretty much coast doing nice numbers for months after release.

Yep, and he’s got like 2 or 3 hits in his back pocket to take this album through the coming months

I’m talking about non Weeknd fans really because we love it and a lot of people agree this is some of the best music he’s ever made

I’m talking the TikTok/Twitter fans that other artists have in their back pocket

It was always gonna be hard to come off and drop an album after dropping probably the biggest album in the last decade and after having the biggest hit of all time in terms of numbers. Correct me, if Im wrong.

How do you follow up that?

You dont. It is probably impossible to reach those heights again, right after, so close in time. Hell, Blinding Lights still playing on radio almost all the time and Save Your Tears too. Songs play everywhere still.

So what do you do. You drop a very artistic and complex album to reset yourself creatively. The album you always wanted to make after achieving all the success you possibly could have had. That only real musicheads are gonna truly appreciate on a deeper level. He might have lost a few "fans", but those were never more than very basic fans to begin with.

I think he earned a lot of respect from critics, his peers and fellow artists with this one. Anyone well-versed in music from time frickin loves this album and at the end thats what might matter most to him. Since I think he takes this s*** super-serious about being seen as a great artist first and foremost. He already got all the accolades. He doesnt have to chase them. He got nothing to prove but keep making timeless music that is gonna last a long time. From his tweets earlier he seems to be on that wave more than anything else. But with that being said he might drop a monster album in future again, who knows. Or more experimental stuff. Im and many others are surely super-intrigued, thats for sure. Takes balls do to what he did.

They’re gonna roast you for this one but this is spot on. The music is all there and then some for people who are actually listening, and for the people Abel is looking to feed the most. After Hours was lightning in a bottle now he’s just coasting.

The album is good but in what part is complex?

In the production. There’s a ton of intricacies within the production of the album that you don’t pick up on unless you’re focused and you’re listening deeper than on the surface.

    Yup.

Then we havent even gotten into the song-writing and the story-telling on these songs. The vocals...

All the transitions that feel and sound seemless.

Theres much thought and delicacy put in to this. It is hard to take in all these parts on just a couple of listens. Because most gonna be blown away by production, which I think might rub some people the wrong way that aint listened or heard anything like this before.

Yeah, he’s not doing anything crazy vocally but he’s definitely utilizing it more than usual. Got the low notes in Gasoline and DBMH, the usual falsettos and belts, and even got spoken word and radio announcer voice on the album too lol

This makes sense until the complex artistic album you always wanted to make that only real music heads will appreciate is just another synth pop record but this time with interludes

I think his last album did the exact same numbers if you remove bundles from the equation
