I only skipped the finale episode of season 2, should I jump into this and just read a recap of that finale

Yea tbh the finale of season 2 isn’t super eventful, so a recap of finale should be fine . You might wanna just watch a recap of season 2 though, there’s a good chance there are big events that you may not remember from last season

Actually after rereading the summary of the finale, there’s def some important story moments

The big issue is the the finale ends on a giant cliffhanger , but the episode does have a lot of important set up

Every scene he shares with her is “oh btw you f***ed up again ”

Meanwhile every scene of Rhaenyra alone with him (really her in almost every scene) is her desperately torn between anger and sadness. Give me some range! Her theater experience shows too much IMO. And every scene of magician lady (still haven’t cared to learn her name since she doesn’t seem like a real person) is her giving a man a profound, terrifying experience. Alicent: we must retain what little dignity we have left … and scheme just a little. Helena: I’m depressed and aloof … but also secrets.

The little dragon rider that could. Basically every character has their little quirk and just exists in this world for their main plot motivation, little characterization beyond that. I get that it’s war but most everyone just feels thin (and the exceptions that don’t make all the others more noticeable).

Edit: AKotSK is such an easy comparison and just looks so good next to this. A fraction of the budget, but smarter writing and it actually lets the characters breathe. Like I get AKotSK is way lower stakes, but HotD is stretching out this story so there is no excuse for there not to be slower moments. K done ranting about HotD on KTT of all places
