So i feel like the original plan was probably to do 3 seasons of this show. But HBO probably offered them more money to do an extra season, and the money was too much to turn down

Because this definitely feels like it could’ve been the halfway point for season 2 instead of the finale.
You can tell they are saving everything for the final 2 seasons

I hear you for sure , I’d never act like this show is anywhere near perfect

Personally I just like to stay optimistic and wait to see the full picture before I really decide how I feel about storytelling choices .
But yea I definitely wish the season ended in a better spot

season 1 GOT - 9/10
Season 2 - 9/10
Season 3 - 10/10
Season 4 - 10/10
Season 5 - 7/10 or so. Hardhome saves it and the early episodes in the season are fine
Season 6 - 8/10. Has some truly meh episodes but also has the best episode in the series and 2 of the top 10
Season 7 - 6/10 maybe? spoils of war is great but there's a lot of plot holes
Season 8 - we don't talk about this but episode 2 is actually great on its own, less great once you realize no one faced any real stakes

HoTD season 1 - 8/10 or so
HoTD season 2 - 5/10
