What about Viserys character makes sense for him to choose the Hightower girl over Valerion family? Didn’t understand anything beyond him being disgusted marrying a 12 year old and copping feelings for the Hightower girl.

His appearance is part of what got him casted. Matt Smith has this look about him that helps make the Targaryen inbreeding believable in this world, the same goes for Milly Alcock who plays Rhaenyra.

I’m enjoying it so far. It’s well paced, the dialogue seems a lot more suitable, but I do think it’s missing a little bit of that charm that GoT had. It is a little bit beige. Not much in the way of mindless mischief or well done wit like early Bronn/Tyrion et al.

Lol the reasons you mentioned are exactly why he did what he did. Any man with good morals could understand why marrying a 12yr old would be uncomfortable for Viserys, but being a good man does not makes you a good king. The wise decision would have been to marry Laena and join the 2 houses.

More to your question, Viserys during these 6 months since Aemma's death has had only the comfort of Alicent company to soothe his grief, I mean the guy has been so grief-stricken that it eventually strains his relationship with his daughter. So I kinda understand where Viserys is coming from, he's still an idiot tho

Not a lot — hence the reactions of both the court and his daughter at his choice. Otto Hightower had sent his daughter to essentially seduce Viserys in his grief, which she succeeded at.

I think it just further illustrates the idea that Viserys is a weak but ultimately kind king who wants peace. He’s quite passive, and the Hightowers took advantage of that.

Had he chosen Lord Corlys’ daughter he maintains strength with the richest house and most powerful fleet in Westeros who also share Valeryian blood for his future children.
