You're missing the point I think, the book isnt told as complete truth its told from the perspective of 2 different dudes trying to piece together history. A lot of the time they weren't even there so its just hearing s*** through other people like a game of telephone.

The parts HotD is covering are also pretty vague and only like 300 pages so theres a lot they have to expand on. Viserys for instance is barely a character in the book. Hes described as an oblivious drunken king basically and then he f***ing dies and the real story begins. That's a big change but no one complains cause show Viserys is awesome. Just roll with it.
