my honest take:
i don't think it was right to ban hasan off twitch for saying "cracker",
while it can be seen as an insult, it simply does not have the historical background as other racial pejoratives.
when you call a white person a "cracker", it's just that, it's doesn't have a dehumanizing effect, it's largely seen as a playful word in American society in most contexts.
when you call a mexican a "sp*c", it's seen as a verbal threat by the individual afflicted, because of its historical usage/origins.
however, I do think the Left has failed at promoting a truly productive and materialist, de-constructive racial discourse.
it has instead opted for a more liberal discourse that doesn't dig deeper into societal relations and instead, heads towards a route of superficial a***yses and idealism promoting a trans-historical notion of race
there are also other liberal concepts like viewing race in isolation from class, and "white guilt", etc. etc.
i feel like this failed discourse is what causes people to not confront white supremacy as an adversary but to gleefully join in, because they feel alienated and reactionaries like using that as a propaganda tool
it has not improved material conditions of the marginalized it claims to fight for, either.
it's kinda funny to say considering how much it's used as a buzzword, but the left has stepped away from an intersectional and universal approach

i wrote an entire thread on this, which probably explains my positions a bit better
although most white people probably don't even know this cracker is a term for poor white people and not white people at large. The term comes from whip cracker as that's what these poor whites were doing during slavery

"DuBois points out:
It must be remembered that the white group of laborers, while they received a low wage, were compensated in part by a sort of public and psychological wage. They were given public deference and titles of courtesy because they were white. They were admitted freely with all classes of white people to public functions, public parks, and the best schools. The police were drawn from their ranks, and the courts, dependent upon their votes, treated them with such leniency as to encourage lawlessness. Their vote selected public officials, and while this had small effect upon the economic situation, it had great effect upon their personal treatment and the deference shown them..."

Right? I understand why people say cracker, the historical implications and nuances. I don't get offended by it because the word is so insignificant to every other racial slur and non-racial slurs. I still don't think we should be promoting insults based on intrinsic characteristics
right but at the same time i don't think anyone should be chasing after someone saying cracker jumping up & down screaming crying saying that's bad or sum s*** when we know exactly why ppl say cracker in our time the first place LOL
