I still believe it is the last bonafide classic album to drop.
Like the last album that is almost unanimously agreed to be a classic
Melodrama dropped a year later and is really incredible, but not Blonde level
Yeah there are albums I hold in similar regard (Care for Me, Melodrama) but nothing that I think is an almost instant classic like Blonde was
“RENAISSANCE” by Beyoncé; “Take Me Apart” by Kelela; “A Seat at the Table” by Solange; “græ” by Moses Sumney; and “MAGDALENE” by FKA twigs.
Fiona Apple Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Solange When I Come Home
Earl Some Rap Songs
Billy Woods Aethiopes
King Krule The OOZ
Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Bandanna
Magdalena Bay Mercurial World
Parannoul To See the Next Part of the Dream
For what it’s worth, the idea one any one album coming out and being so much better than everything else for years is dumb af
That sort of obsession over one object isn’t healthy imo, for the artist or fan. Of course, you can have a strong personal relationship to anything, but I doubt anyone can name something that’ll make you go “ok yeah that’s also Blonde-tier”

no it’s not barely any s*** better than off the wall for instance

oh brother… horse blinders is the best metaphor for this sort of fixation/lionization of individual releases
I will not waste my time listing all the amazing albums that came out 1977-81 or so
I gotta be the only one that doesn’t like blonde
Despite it being franks most mature release… it still makes me feel like I’m in high school

Good post
I agree with at least 3 of these. You can obviously make an argument for the rest too

I made this thread more as a way to get recommendations of albums that people have that sort of connection with. I’m not sure what is unhealthy with my love for the album. I’m telling you I haven’t found anything that has moved me and stuck with me in the same way. I didn’t choose that. I’m still listening to a lot of music and loving a lot of s***, but I haven’t found anything I love quite as much. That’s just how I feel idk how it’s “dumb af”.

You say that but none of these albums are close to Blonde
That Fiona album is by far her worst project also
