I'm wanting to travel to Japan in November and have to fly from HTX to Toronto to ultimately get to Tokyo. Both of these flights are through Air Canada, and it gives me an 1hr and 15 min layover. Am I completely screwed here if the flight is even delayed by 30 mins? Does the airline make sure I get to this connecting flight no matter what?
"Does the airline make sure I get to this connecting flight no matter what?" No

Honestly you'll be good, had a similar layover at the same airport and it went by smoothly.
They'll let you disembark faster so you can get to your connecting flight.

I was literally in the same situation this past Sunday lol
Good thing, this is in November and not the day before when I noticed this. I'm assuming you're new to flying like I was.
You should have 2 hr layover minimum for international. I'd personally would do 2hr 30min to be safe and would also give you time to chill and take a breather instead of having to rush over to your next flight.
Call the airline and tell the situation so that they can give you a connecting flight with a realistic layover

Seems like you got lucky to me. If your flight does not take off in time, you're kinda rolling the dice for no reason imo

So I should look for a longer layover realistically, even if it's the same airline for both flights?
I guess I'll shell out a bit more cash for a direct flight

Would definitely recommend booking direct if you can, or with a longer layover. YYZ is my home airport so I’m not sure how it works for layovers but you will probably need to re-clear security. Either way I’d recommend a 2hr layover minimum

I have very limited experience with flying. I've never done same airline with connecting flights, it was always in partner with another airline.
The reason I doubt the connecting flight will wait if yours is late, is because usually other passengers need to connect to other flights when they land as well so delaying your connection to wait for your initial one to land will cause others to miss their flights
Direct is best imo. The less hassle you have to deal with the better

Were both flights with the same airline?
Def risky and not worth the stress. Is that an hour between landing and takeoff or gate closing? Luggage checked all the way through or would you have to collect and check in again?
Yeah, don’t recommend because of potential for flight delays
Were both flights with the same airline?
Yep both aircanada as well
Btw you don't have to go through security again on your connecting flight
call the airline @op
the agent will get you a longer layover
it’s quicker (and might be cheaper) than looking for a new flight yourself. direct flight will have you hating life
Yeah ended up missing my connecting cause the initial flight was late
Damb that sucks man
