This is tapping into a market that’s easy to tap into
Ariana, Adele, Ed Sheeran, all had these posted on their YouTube accounts
Right. Everyone is chasing hits not just Drake
i'm sorry should major label artists that get into this business to make money and be successful NOT want their music to be popular enough to create social media trends? they should not welcome that absolutely legitimate marker of today's "success" because it's not real enough?
Seeing their favs songs on tiktok makes them feel less special
Especially when they molded their personality after the artist
it is a bit of a race thing.
It’s not a race thing at all tbh. It’s just something people on here use as ammo during music discussions. I know cause I do it to

er the main issue is sacrificing the quality of music for $ales
that’s kinda the whole crux of the argument
“This is garbage mumble rap”
“This is garbage tiktok music”
Are both code for “the music I like is better than the music you like”
I think you got Toosie Slide confused with TMB

tik tok music is synonymous with mainstream appeal yes, but there’s a huge difference in just “mainstream appeal” and making something that people can make tik toks to, Toosi Slide is a PERFECT example
someone remind me of toosie slide's conception. didn't homie make a dance, drake made a bop to it, then they proceeded to do that dance on social media? is it not the same as any other dance craze? is it less organic because it's tik tok? i'm really trying to understand. it just seems like new devices have been introduced to "the game" of the industry and we as consumers are less inviting to it than the artists when it should probably be the other way around.

you get a lot of primarily Caucasian rockist hipsters who like a couple of token rap artists (Kanye, Kendrick) that look down upon any rap that isn’t critically acclaimed or heralded, or abstract/experimental. it’s almost like if you like something that is traditional hip hop, it’s an indictment on your taste. you can see it everywhere

i genuinely do not get it fam

The difference with Toosie Slide is that he literally sent it out to popular TikTokers to post and dance to before it was even released. It’s not like he dropped the song and it happened to blow up on TikTok, he specially made sure the song had a following on TikTok and then dropped the song.
you ignored what i said and posted the same exact links. there is no conversation for me and you to have
"how is WLR or Dawn FM tik tok music vs drake releasing something unapologetically geared to go viral and create videos to like Toosi Slide?"
links posts to Abel releasing something unapologetically geared to go viral and create videos to like Take My Breath
You're acting disingenuous as if that isn't the same. Everyone is trying to go viral. Adele, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, The Weeknd, Travis, Kendrick, BTS literally everyone making music. Unless you're a stan and can't be objective you can't deny this

That’s their opinion. Has nothing to do w being racist
People look for different s*** in their music. Everyone isn’t gonna like what you like. I get where y’all are coming from but it’s lame when you try to make it a race thing. Cause all black people don’t listen to the same music

Did Weeknd send take my breath early to tiktokers? Or did he market it after it’s release to a platform that will literally make fart sounds viral if it’s popular enough?

if that’s how it was conceived then point taken. if it was not however, it’s a pretty good example. i doubt it even would’ve existed without tik tok, and yes it would be “less organic” because you’re baiting for popularity instead of just making music
it’s cool if you’re just looking to be successful, but if you’re looking to make quality music, appealing to the masses is only gonna get you so far

Facts, and I’m not even a Gunna fan but if you don’t think Pushin P is a good modern pop rap song you’re deluding yourself

i can give you the classic "quality is subjective" but really when it comes down to it, f*** that and f*** our opinions. these artists are gonna make what comes to them, and we're gonna receive it or not. i don't think the sacrifice of quality and the accumulation of sales or awards or anything else that gets repeated on here to death really has to correlate 100% of the time. maybe not even 50%.

Pushin P is quite literally a meme created specifically for the likes of TikTok
And it’s working flawlessly
Almost 200
what a monumental L for one, and a major W for another
Ones man’s flop is another man’s treasure
Weeknd hasn’t posted since
It wasn’t supposed to be like this
Not even one top 10 debut
