This first ep felt like picking up the first issue of a modern comic run with characters you're kinda familiar with

Excellent first episode. Lindelof never disappoints.

The tone's great, John and Hal's dynamic is perfect, and they give just enough lore to keep the mystery going.

Algorithms and stuff are rotting all of us, who knows anything. but to me this seems like the most talked about and somewhat maybe bordering on culturally captivating (for tv and movie folks) superhero show in years
