I’m really not interested in another slow burn grounded mystery. I’m good on that.

We got other shows that do that better that ain’t got anything to do with superheroes.

I’d rather watch Mare of Eastown ten times over #respectfully

I mean this show sold as true detective that is his original pitch and I dont think it delivered on that as much as he thinks it does. I think that comparison actually did them a disservice

  • I love the main theme for the show

When they play it when John shows up in MOT

I dont understand the spectacle obsession because you have been fed with snyder, mcu and so many things with higher budgets

let us enjoy a good story. Also I bet good money I dont see certain users talking about spectacle in threads of Watchmen tthat balanced both if you want a marvel tv show go watch marvel.

You for some reason think that good stories and spectacle cannot coexist

the same way I will never go to avengers doomsday like "where is the drama and writing"

I know why the f*** I am there

    This is completely pretentious

A good story does not mean zero spectacle

The Denis Dune movies are brilliantly written and also have a sense of spectacle

Shaleirose wont even acknowledge that though. he just likes the pretty colors. when Practical effects that actually look good is more than that. Marvel just fired so much of their special fx team.

    You’re wildly pretentious

Crazy because your grasp of filmmaking and writing is so juvenile

I literally said they can in that same post with Watchmen. I am also saying a show that has been in development hell since 2019 and dealing with countless issues. Changing hands, started under a entirely different wbs , new wbs now and in future under paramount. They will deal with budget issues and constraints. The focus should be the show landing and being great more than spectacle. Which you claim isnt what you wanted you claim its lantern elements or constructs.

I am saying I am not going to Avengers Doomsday to get out and critique the writing. I am there and I know what I am there for. Based upon the expectations they set

Nowhere did Damon Lindelof, James Gunn, Chris Mundy promise you spectacle they in fact said the opposite. Stated their reasoning. Made clear it wasnt a space show. Made story reasons the ring had limited charge EARLY ON IN THE SHOW.

Said to even make a bird it takes the character a great amount of mental strength. Hal who is a seasoned veteran wasnt making constructs left and right. Guy Gardner does in the movies but that is clealry because its a movie with a BIGGER BUDGET

    its really not that complicated

I literally went to school and have a degree in it and never mention it in discussions about movies or tv. I mention it in game discussions when I am discussion game mechanics but not to invalidate other users for not having done so. I have never told you "read a book" " take a class on it""watch more tv shows"

Have you seen leftovers, watchmen or lost?

were any of those shows primarily successful for their spectacle and not writing?

    to me no

Ozark was it spectacle ? no

so if the creators that Gunn choose to do this arent known for spectacle focus why do you want them to change that for fan service with an already limited budget where actors, writers and staff have to get paid.

lets say you get the amount of "lantern elements" or spectacles fans are clamoring for but it hurts the writing and or casting is it truly worth it?

the memorable part of this show will be the hal john relationship not "I wish they used more constructs"

there are shows and movies that have less effective bond than this show that had with them that are exponentially more

then why are you complaining that there arent enough lantern elements specifically constructs. Which they never promised and they made clear both in story and in their interviews wouldnt exist.

You have this narrow view of what good writing is that you think it can only exist in the absence of action & spectacle

Again, I am NOT saying I expected spectacle in Lanterns

I was pointing out the fact that it was absurd that in a show about Green Lanterns there was zero Green Lanterning happening in the final three episodes (one of those episodes which I loved)

Can you name a good example

you said "lantern elements" then you changed to "constructs" then you say constructs arent spectacle while also defending and posting the tweet that directly mentions spectacle and mentioning those that expected a big final battle arent dumb

you mentioned those things. Not I.

You mentioned those things as your cons. Not the many story decisions I listed. Not the writing or delivery of moments. You mentioned more constructs and the blackmailing angle was pointless to you in which myself and another user said what did you expect it to develop into?

HE LITERALLY FLIES , holds a lantern, meets sinestro on another planet

you are limiting your idea of lanterning to constructs

when his discussion with noah in the car was one of the best moments of the show

  • Oct 6

so this loops back to what do you consider lanterning? if not saying the oath, having a lantern symbol ( looked goofy batman like but was to service fans like yourself), holding a literal lantern, stating his intent for how he will use his powers, wearing the ring, talking to Noah in the car, Sinestro scene

    “Holds a Lantern, meets Sinestro”

If this was the MCU, you would refer to these as “jingling keys”

  • Oct 6

he is very lantern in the finale lol

part of the point of the entire show is that being a lantern and having that power is about more than just showing off the power its about the opposite

we see that from the pilot episode when Hal is the hero and the effects of the news publicity and all of that.
