...okay first big first issue with this

going for the Oni (only one of the yotei's six I went for so far) becomes such a slog after you "fail" the first time, it's full of plot conveniences that pushes you back to point A over and over again; at first I was really liking the idea of not directly fighting the boss and make it all more layered but then it becomes so unnecessarily stretched out and repetitive, and it's all provoked by overwriten plot armor

Haven’t gotten as far as you but I also chose to go after the Oni first and I wonder at the pacing of the game. Kinda feels like Oni area could be later area? But the other way out of the first area leads to the other 3 main story yotei so it seemed to make more sense to go after Oni?

Went after the kitsune first. And I think its the most interesting part of the game for me.

Im doing the oni now. That reveal at the beginning was crazy but besides that dont know how I feel about this part in comparison.

Yeah the reveal is exactly what made me question the pacing right away cuz it felt like it should’ve been something that gets revealed a third of the way into a story based on writing structure.

like sure Atsu experiences a whole 16 years without her brother, but we as the player don’t. So for me going the Oni route and immediately meeting him already throws a wrench into the Onryo (revenge is all that matters) theme when you’re probably supposed to start imagining an alternative

Yeah imagined all the yotei six missions are gonna be like this... and it's dumb asf cuz whenever you start doing the mission you basically already know how its gonna go, that is pretty much pointless to do whatever you're doing cuz you gonna "fail" anyways
