Big “that’s it?” feeling while watching
Visually looks amazing and I like the gameplay change ups. But it seems more like GOT 1.5 instead of a full sequel, I’m surprised it’s taken so long to come out.
Well we don’t really have a sense of how big the game is yet, but it hasn’t taken that long really. Remember after GOT dropped in 2020 they worked on Legends multiplayer and then the Iki expansion + directors cut which released late 2021
So full scale production on this game likely didn’t start until 2022
Game looks like a GOT dlc. Like even the graphics don’t look better.
I don’t mind that too much tho
Sequel discourse in gaming is fried. It's a sequel, what did people expect a sequel to look and play like?

Nah, should've been set in 2099 with futuristic samurais and an AI version of Jin Sakai being your guide through the game /s
S*** is fried, I agree

they should’ve just made a new sly or infamous instead of this

Leave old IPs in the grave where they belong they had their time
All Sony needs to do is remaster infamous 1

All I want is better side content and more consistency in cutscene animation quality.
Also livelier towns would be nice.
I’ve seen some discourse over the more open nature of the main story, but I do think that can be rectified if each “boss” feels like it’s own (mostly) self-contained narrative with its own distinct flavor that all loosely tie into one another at first but then culminate into a shared finale.

That's because this took 5 years to make and it's a next gen game compared to Tsushima.
Think about this, there were 4 Batman Arkham games in 6 years. Yotei is the second game after 5 years, and it looks like it delivers the same kind of evolution as Arkham City did after Asylum, but it was only 2 years after Asylum.
So, 5 years of waiting creates a different level of expectation. But that's AAA gaming these days.

All I want is livelier towns and maybe some more open ended nature content like RDR2 hunting and camping

ghost of tsushima hasn't even been out for 5 years
and they were working on Legends mode and Iki dlc until late 2021
this is the product of 3 years work
the way y'all talk about video game dev teams is like they're your slaves and they're not working hard enough lmao

Yes it has been 5 years, it came out in July 2020.
No one said they're not working hard enough, i'm saying that what it takes to be a AAA game these days takes TOO much work and TOO much time for the end result to be, for the most part, only a slight iteration of came before.

It hasn’t even turned 5 years old yet, so to say they’ve been working on this new game for 5 years is f***ing ridiculous. The way you talk about it is like you think they’re supposed to start making a new game on July 18th, 2020
They kept working on content until late 2021, so the earliest they started full production on this game would be early 2022
This is the product of THREE years work, if you can’t criticize something accurately without spinning it to sound like they took 5 years to make something, then you shouldn’t criticize it at all

you're the one spinning it to make it look like those side content things took the entire team to make, and that they waited 2 whole years to start this. You clearly talk like you don't know about AAA development at all.
But it doesn't even matter, the tepid reaction we're seeing for this game is clearly the result of expectations not being met after 5 years of anticipation.
Had this game dropped 2022 or early 2023 we would've seen a different reaction, but it's impossible to make this in 2 - 3 years only.

you driving me crazy
“Side content things” ??? You mean an entire multiplayer mode and a full expansion with story cutscenes and a new island? And a director’s cut ps5 upgrade? Yes…. that took time and resources. They didn’t wait 2 whole years THEY WERE WORKING.
Even if we pretend like making a multiplayer mode and expansion is “waiting” you keep repeatedly conflating time. “Waiting 2 whole years” is not the same as starting development January 2022 after releasing a game in July 2020.
You’re rounding up and down, cutting 7 months out of the equation to make your weak argument seem stronger. Genuinely, what is your bone to pick? You’re comparing this game to your favorite Arkham games and you haven’t even played it. All because you’re upset this trailer didn’t spoil everything in it.

it’s even weirder when you consider a lot of games considered the greatest of all times are mostly just iterations on a previous entry in the series

The island expansion the multiplayer were being worked in parellel with the main game by a side team, you didn't actually think these 2 thing were done in under a year, right?
The main team was WORKING on the sequel, this whole time. Are you that ignorant to how development pipelines work? In AAA it's impossible to make a sequel like this in 3 years you just can't.
And yes by the time this game comes it will be 5 years since they started this,
i have no bone to pick idiot, i'm just saying that this is the state of AAA these days and people are seeing it now. You wait 5 years you get more of the same, but slightly tweaked. But back in the days you'd have to wait 2 years tops to get a sequel like this, maybe even better.

where did you hear that the main team weren’t working on the expansion or multiplayer? This is news to me
I know how the pipeline works, for instance, this game was mostly finished a year ago and they’ve been doing mainly polish and bug fixing. Before main development starts there’s pre-development steps, usually you don’t have a whole studio doing full development for 5 years lol

Then they complain about video games not being $60 anymore even though it's been that price for decades
