However, the landlord and my mom and I believe they should compensate us an additional amount for the time in distress

Update everyone!!
My mom filed a police report and the police haven’t been able to catch the thief yet. Costco outsources deliveries and the employees at these companies allow their undocumented friends to do the deliveries for them . So Costco nor the detective has been able to figure out who the thief was.
