Nobody really 😂 it was a real transitional period where artists like Don Trip, Starlito, Dee Goodz and a few other more street oriented rappers were kinda being phased out and more Post-Odd future and late blog era type artists were starting to get traction. Like there was a lot going on in the city but it was also before mfs knew how to get on so everybody was on some Odd Future s*** not really doing their own thing.

There was a big benefit concert with like every up and coming rapper at one point not too long before he got signed and I remember people knowing his music but it being one of those moments where you realize he’s the only person really doing something new. Next thing you know dude was signing to TDE and I swear everybody else just stopped rapping lol

Good times nonetheless but still crazy to think about that night he got signed. City was shook fr lol

He was really the only person prepared for the world to pivot to that TDE/Kendrick sound.

Didn’t even know Don was from out there lol

All this makes the track Shot You Down make a lot more sense lol

If anything nerfed him it was his release schedule, his albums are all amazing

  • Saying he could have been as big as Kendrick is hilarious if you actually believe that you’re delusional lmao

Atleast Kendrick got some spins in the hood with GKMC

    Isaiah trash

    True.

    I concur.

  • Apr 22, 2025

He never wanted to be the next Kendrick and he was never going to be. His only issue was taking too many breaks between releases. He had his own lane being able to mix “vibes” with being lyrical enough to rap with the others but not too lyrical to get boxed in with the “lyrical miracle” crowd

This made me bump CD on my rainy day walk and it was amazing.

Isaiah Rashad really just another testament to TDE’s developmental skills.

He had very clear potential but was no where near as developed as a lot of the people in the Nashville rap scene.

It was a big deal when everybody heard TDE was in town to sign somebody and I promise his name was the last anybody thought of.

Nashville? He from Chattanooga tho.. are those scenes blended?

Swear I felt like I saw him get signed right after a random post of him on 2dopeboyz lol I didn’t think much of em besides him taking shots at Rocky on Fake trill

Idk if he lived in Antioch for a minute or what but he was in the Antioch/Nashville area a lot in the couple years before he blew up. A lot of rap s*** was going on in the area at the time.

    Water Giver

    Big facts.

Cilvia Demo is really unique and high level but the apologists really overrated his work afterwards and try to hindsight downplay CD to make a false point.

Most his music after CD is still good, but it's just very basic in comparison.

Same with Mick Jenkins after The Waters, another lightning in the bottle crazy project that was unique and high level, but his stuff afterwards most of it ended really basic. Although most of his music after it is still good overall, just not the heights and the crazy vision of that project. Like Rashad.

An Isaiah that kept on the same path of CD would legit be one of the best Rappers, period.

I know the expectation of what comes after CD f***ed him up and made his mental health really bad tho (and I think the same happened with Mick with Waters), so if it overall makes his health physical and mental better with the way it played out then that is good.

But man, that project was and still is so crazy. So artistic while still being very hip-hop, so unique while still being digestible, crazy ass special production and high level rap skill while still being catchy and understandable.

    Amazing point of time.

    i love THIB tbh

The rap goats have exceptional rapping ability or song making ability sometimes both. Just being a vibe is not gonna cut it at all.

And where all them other Nashville cats been at since?

  • Apr 23, 2025

Like it's a reason TDE signed Zay and nobody else from Tennessee really did much since then. Shoutout The House crew though those dudes are nice. Brian Brown is also great and I hope he starts to break through more once that next album of his comes out. Journey was an extremely special pandemic album, still throw that some spins to this day.

  • Apr 23, 2025

He's just fine the way he is tbh.

Nowhere lol I put that all in another post.

Not that TDE was even looking for a Tennessee artist in the first place just illustrating how TDE could have picked anybody but they found and developed the person that worked best in their crew.
