I haven't watched the first 2 seasons since they aired so I don't remember them perfectly, but I feel like the show used to have more plot. especially season 1. now there's basically none (so far). the show has always had really well written parables about life and race, so it's not like that's new, but I can see how some people might not feel it as much without plot mixed in. some people want a show about paper boi & earn's career rise and all that

But I mean if ppl want a show with Paperboi and Earns career mixed in, they are getting that? We are watching how Paperboi is handling life on the road. Throwing around rapper money, ditching shows, partying with rich folks he didn’t have access to before, Earn furthering his career by managing new clients. The plot just isn’t in your face.

    Until Season 3 proves otherwise

The Barbershop episode in S2 is the funniest s*** they have ever done

It’s funny cuz it’s the most relatable episode they’ve ever done. Especially if you’re black.

yall think vanessa gonna smash darius?

    Or maybe she already did

  • Apr 7, 2022
    mr get dough

I could see Van trying but would be very disappointed if Darius did

Seems so outta character for him, i feel like he would recognize van is in a vulnerable space and not take advantage of that and also not betray Earn. A serious ex is off limit fasho

But I do think they’re gonna keep teasing that idea just to fake out and have Earn and Van end up back together

I think Darius was definitely in that hotel room at 4am, but I wouldn’t expect him to do anything but have a friendly talk

watched all 3 episodes last night. idk man kinda underwhelming. a number of the jokes just really didn't land for me and I know meandering is kinda the Atlanta thing but after such a long absence it feels especially slow. third episode was the best so far imo but still none of them have been as good as season 1 or 2 on average

If this season of Atlanta is not hitting for you, it might be going over your head, or you're trying to relate to the experiences of people you cannot really relate to rather than trying to really understand them. If that makes sense. (You can understand one without being able to relate to one imo)

I haven't seen a peep about some of the deeper layers presented in the last episode. Nobody peep how Paperboi, the black rapper, is trying to get his 40 back from the white billionaire? The white billionaire pretending to be asleep to this call and closing his eyes to it? So in turn, the black man/rapper starts sawing down things that this white billionaire holds dear? In this case, the tree.

Bro, every scene in this episode has layers like that. Stop looking for jokes. The reality we live in, which the show is trying to reflect is the joke. That's why scenes might often feel more uncomfortable than funny to some, as that's because you're being made to admit to yourself that reality currently is ridiculous. At least to those who are aware of it.

Is 40 specific to 40 acres and a mule?????

“We tryna buy back are 40 acres”
    waitttt

If that’s what you saying then this further proof how genius this s*** is cus that flew over my head too. Bruh you broke that s*** down or read that somewhere???

nah I get all that the episodes just aren't very funny so far and it feels like they're kinda retreading similar ground thematically

I mean they are speaking on the black experience thematically. That’s always and will always be the theme. I’m not sure your race but honestly feel like only non-black ppl would feel a little bored with this.

I feel like its going along the route of cowboy bebop where every episode is more so self contained with bits of plot sprinkled in. Honestly the characters are stronger than the story in my opinion

IMO on a surface level this season has been entertaining. And then genius once you reflect on the episode and dive deep into the layers and themes.

I literally go into each episode not knowing what they gonna do next and I love it.

Yup also why the pic Earn looks at has the slave in the back with the white masters holding the check.
Basically showing how black artist are exploiting and left with nothing
Correlating to the music industry imo or any industry

Am I crazy or was al almost initiated into some billionaire satanist inner circle? Do you think nando was unable to pay the money? Or was he afraid of a man who claimed to have god on his side?

Movies/shows are so much better when they let you connect the dots like these without it being thrown in your face

All you gotta do is show an audience a “2” another “2” and a “+” sign and they’ll figure out the answer is 4
