Wow. This brought me back. Insane wave of nostalgia. Bout to cry
Watching Vince Staples Show Season 2 made me appreciate this show even more. Witty references to memes/pop culture, surrealism that doesn't feel corny, characters the viewer actually cares about and most importantly - actual laugh out loud "hold up, let me rewind that
" moments
People call Atlanta the Boondocks a lot, but I deadass see it having a similar stature in culture 15 years from now
ngl I appreciate what Vince was trying but it did feel like a watered down Atlanta a lot.
similar dark surreal dry comedy tone but the jokes aren't quite as funny, you're not super invested in the cast, the social critique is extremely on the nose and below surface level stuff is only vaguely alluded to... it was lacking the big needledrops and cinematic moments too. there were a lot of bits I liked and he's a charismaric screen presence but especially right after rewatching this it just felt like a cheaper version of the same idea tbh
I actually do hope Vince continues working in film, I do think he's clearly passionate about this and it feels like a very natural medium for him to express himself in, but it also doesn't quite feel like he's found his own voice or story yet to me.
where do yall think paper boi would be in 2026
Idk if he'd still be rapping, but I definitely feel like he'd try his hand at producing.
I could also see Darius becoming a streamer and getting Al to try it out but Al ends up hating it and calling his viewers weird

Why this kinda go..
This would be a great show to get a couple anthology episodes every now and then
I'm conflicted. On one hand, I feel like this show did what it needed to do and wrapped up perfectly. On the other hand, this show is sorely missed and I kinda want more from this world they created
The smallest things in this show hilarious to me and have me dying. Like the whole Florida Man joke
But I also like how they built on it and multiple mystical figures were just named "-man" in this show
That same episode, those kids call Katt Williams the Alligator Man. In Season 4, Darius and Earn go to the nigga known for selling sneakers in the area and he's the Shoe man
like that's really some hood/urban legend s***. The Crank Dat Killer too
This show was really something special, grateful I got to witness it air in real time

Yeah man… it’s my ultimate comfort show. I’d be hard pressed to find people who have rewatched this show more than me.

So insanely and uniquely black. Like watching this as a black person and as a white person have to be two different experiences. There’s stuff in there that only WE can see.
This is my favorite show of all time.
And I’ve said this many times, but I’d pay a ridiculous amount of money for a 4K boxset of all 4 seasons, with director commentary and behind the scenes footage

Absolutely nothing has come close to filling the hole that this show left.

Still mad they never capitalized off the post credits twist in season 3 but I get that it was more metaphorical

I'm not even American but I feel like I could relate to this show. Like something so small in the fake FUBU episode, the fact that when Al sees Earn and the first thing he asks is "Did you catch DBZ yesterday" - our country used to air DBZ episodes Monday-Thursday at about 5PM and it had every single 4-18 year old male in a headlock. Like that was legit my childhood. I still remember missing an episode and being heartbroken when I heard Goku turned SS3 for the first time when I asked my friends what happened
Earn saying his mom forbids him from watching it because she seen Mr Popo and said the show is racist too, reminded me of my mom calling Yu-Gi-Oh satanic
Like the people behind this show just got it. Captured the black experience, was hilarious af while doing it, incorporated some trippy/surrealism elements and it wrapped up perfectly. I was looking at Donald like
when he compared the show to the Sopranos but it's really up there with the GOAT series for me

For sure.
But there's things strewn throughout; I'm thinking back to things like your main barber knowing how you like it + the montage scene in Rich Wigga more specifically. Some s*** that only we would know. I imagine a white person being lost during that segment.
