I wish we coulda got Earn and Van’s friends interacting
They didnt like him and i already know he didnt like them either
When Earn decides to leave Van behind after he finds out she f***ed Darius in Europe
Bruh Darius is neutered if I’m not mistaken
Glover has to win an Emmy for this. The emotions are so real.
Not sure which Donald performance i like more...this episode or Homeliest Little Horse
Why are the user reviews on Metacritic so low for this season?
Who isn't liking this?

How many reviews are there?

I agree that he deserves it, but he probably won't win anything bc he already won a few.
How many reviews are there?
No clue. Mainly user reviews. On Vudu, Season 4 is the lowest there is and Metacritic has like more than half bad reviews from users.
Critic score on Metacritic for Season 4 is like 82, which is still really low compared to the others (including Season 3???)

Odd, but who knows what some people's deal is
This show is already a certified cult classic and most will agree when it's all over
Started s4 last night. First two episodes are classics and better than all the Europe episodes from s3. Earn’s a sicko for that s*** that he pulled in episode 2

Mans said "I think she's in debt now!" with the biggest smile on his face
Earn a whole psychopath
waited longer than i normally to watch this episode
no more episode previews huh?
wow there’s so much to say but i truly believe all that has to be said is wow
we will look back on this show fondly, people will grow up watching this show, and it will influence so much great art for years to come
from the chaos of s3, s4 is so rewarding to the fans in such a meaningful way
i can’t believe that this show aired snipe hunt and three slaps in the same year
I love how they didn't build on Clark County's "subplot" in Season 3 after the s2 finale tbh.
That would've been too predictable.
they’re honestly genius tv show writers
You guys are allowed to criticize Van all you want but also yall GOTTA remember we only get 23-35 mins an episode guys lol. Yall talking about there's no explanation or rhyme or reason for Van's character like when would the time come for that?
It aint the wire, sopranos or breaking bad where every episode is 40-60 minutes. lol
(and I wonder if part of THAT is because of how the industry has changed or how the audience has changed in general...cause I would LOVE for shows like Atlanta and Insecure to have had hour long episodes personally, but I'm also a millennial, like most of us in this thread)
the 30 min runtime makes these episodes so airtight tho and take really amazing creative liberties to make nuanced and deep characters without much exposition at all
it’s honestly genius
this. i was kind of mindblown by the ending bc i was seriously expecting something to go wrong while they were in the rain but it didn’t. this is probably the most subversive episode of the entire series
i think this is why s3 will age so gracefully
you don’t get that level of suspense without the white moms going crazy
without van going crazy
it’s levels to this s***!!!!!!
I only brought it up last week because I thought it was funny how protective Van was over Lottie in last weeks episode compared to her forgetting about her whole existence in S3
she never forgot about her she very clearly felt like a danger to her daughter and was running away from that fact during her entire stint in europe
it’s just for some reason more believable to get into this weird stuff with Al then it is with van…
That’s because the show keeps Van on the sidelines too much. We see Al and get a glimpse of his daily life in almost every ep. As a result, episodes like Woods and New Jazz are so powerful bc they are not only surreal and experimental but they capitalize on the struggles and traits of the character that are already on display the majority of the time
But with Van, because we see so little of her, episodes that focus on her inherently have a harder job to do bc they’re supposed to make up for the fact that she’s not around 60-70% of the time in addition to being wacky and experimental stories in their own right. But without seeing Van’s everyday life, the episodes where her world gets turned upside down don’t have the same impact as the ones with Al. It’s weird too because on paper, I would argue that Van is a really interesting character, as interesting as Al or anyone else on the series
Van is a college graduate with no idea what she wants to do what her life. Like Earn, she is intelligent but prone to being a f*** up. She’s half-German and speaks the language, having grown up in that culture. Her default type in men seems to be rich, white or “exotic” type dudes but the love of her life is ultimately Earn and she seems to have an all-Black circle of friends. Her interests include traveling, IG thotting, and cannibalism. There aren’t many black female characters on television like that
They created such a layered character in Van but it’s like they don’t even know it and seem content with just keeping her in the background most of the time. I wish we could have gotten to meet her parents
i hear what you saying i agree on most points actually but i still feel like van gets a good amount of quality screen time, much more than darius, who any other show would be given much more of the spotlight as the b plot to earn / al’s a plot
I feel like all these points have already been said about Tarrare months ago lol
it’s going to be divisive for as long as this show is talked about
This episode was a miss for me. I always figured they'd end up together by the end, but I just did not care about them together at all.
booooooo
There’s a deeper story they were trying to emphasize on with this episode. The black family dynamic and how to rebuild that, getting through all the pride and ego which is why they played that Sade song Love Stronger Than Pride.
I think it was a great message and not something you depicted in black media like at all
AT ALL
THIS SHOW IS SPECIAL
she never forgot about her she very clearly felt like a danger to her daughter and was running away from that fact during her entire stint in europe
If she didn’t forget about her then why when her friend mentioned Lottie she suddenly acted like she remembered all about her and had the break down?
If she didn’t forget about her during that brief stint then that makes her character even more dumb
i can’t believe that this show aired snipe hunt and three slaps in the same year
niggas not gonna respect season 3 until years from now
