    Why Yesterday

Sorry if its been talked about but do we think the therapy episode is based on Donald's actual experience as an RA?

feelings of isolation maybe but to that extreme, i doubt it considering he got his degree

Dam Hulu numbers about to go up with Atlanta and ramy on the same month

WTF, RAMY COMING BACK??! Best news ever, on God I was just thinking the other day about how S3 needs to drop

    Whats Ramy? that show good?

Probably the closest thing to Atlanta on TV right now, but it's more about the Muslim-American experience and religion/finding meaning than the black experience. I'm not a big fan of the side episodes that focus on other members of his family, but it's still great. You need to watch S2, Ramy is such a f*** up

Nah I disagree. I can’t tell if this is a flaw of the episode or actually genius writing, but the characters were gaslighting the f*** out of Earn here

Idk maybe I’m too much like him and still need to heal from my past baggage lol, but I don’t think he was wrong at all. Earn has been repeatedly s***ted on. We saw it multiple times throughout the first three seasons and now we see it’s been a recurring thing throughout his entire life. So his striking back in this episode didn’t feel petty but more like him finally prioritizing himself and using the resources he has at his disposal to take a stand, something few black men in the world get to do.

I feel like Al, Darius and Earn’s therapist did the exact same thing to him here that those white people at Princeton did. They cut his motivations down to sheer spite and completely disregarded his pain.

Earn was screwed over by Sasha in college. And when he took a stand by using his RA privileges to get his suit back, he was punished and made to be the villain without anyone considering his point of view. And it’s the same thing with this airport incident.

By going back to Princeton and taking his family on a vacation, Earn was genuinely trying to take his therapist’s advice and heal from his past. But once again, he was s***ted on by a white lady who damn near ruined the experience. And when Earn decides to take a stand by using his $$ and paying other black folks to give her a dose of what she inflicted on countless other black people, he is once again made out to be the villain without anyone considering his point at view.

Racist white woman tears >>> Earn’s pain as a black man

I’m also @ Van crying at the airport and making the situation about her instead of backing Earn up when he is being discriminated against. typical Van 😂

My guy Earn should probably go back to therapy but I can understand why he is the way he is and he’s certainly not the bad guy here. F*** that white b****

    #EarnHive

That episode my favorite one of the season so far, maybe one of my favorite in the whole series because it gives Earn's character so much depth. I'm sure it's been mentioned in here, but it also gives context to how Earn lost his s*** and became obsessive whenever someone took his property from him (the jacket which had the key to literally everything he owned, his laptop)

The one thing I question tho - you talk about Earn wanting to take his family on vacation because that's what he said to the therapist. But I think it's left to the viewer's interpretation how true that is He might have been going back to Princeton purely out of spite and was pissed that he lost that opportunity. That's why he went through all that trouble of getting back at that woman. Either could be true, maybe even a combination of both. This show is so f***ing great

Also, chill on the Van slander I think her episodes are probably the weakest of the show so far but I don't see how her crying in that situation is being selfish or making it about her

If it's in this show, i just expect it to never be brought back up again.

Yall going to be so shook when it turns out the family member was Al's mom

    mr get dough

That would absolutely ruin the show for me id be so hot

A character dying in this show would be so OD

I'd actually be disappointed if Paperboi DOESN'T end up dying. So many situations in this show could be interpreted as foreshadowing to his death. Him shooting someone in episode 1, hearing about the dude asking about him who smoked swishers with no weed in it, the nigga who pulled up to his door in the Batman mask, 2pac, Blueblood and Yodel Kid deaths, Blueblood's funeral, that shot of him in the diner this last episode looks kinda like the last few moments of the Sopranos

It’s better than Breaking Bad lmao

I fw BB but it’s one of the most overrated shows of all time. It didn’t do anything that other tv shows before it like The Sopranos and The Wire hadn’t already done better. Atlanta isn’t perfect but it’s a work of art and there’s truly nothing else like it on TV. same can’t be said for BB

Breaking Bad showed the transformation of a main character better than either of those shows did, Heisenberg is a completely different person from the Walter White you first see

Walter went through an Othello/Michael Corleone level transformation, that's at least one thing BB did better than those shows

interesting interpretation. personally, I feel like Earn was being genuine with the therapist. he opened up about Princeton and being abused as a kid, broke down crying. He respected dude enough to quit the sessions face to face instead of over the phone. I think he really took his words to heart

I was joking a little with my Van comment but nah, I think her character really is hella selfish. Earn’s recap of that situation reminded me of when he took her out in S2E3 (Money Bag Shawty) and got racially profiled the whole night while she mainly just shrugged it off and found it amusing. Idk it may be a biracial thing but she never backs him up or empathizes with him as a partner should in these situations. Even in the Helen episode, it was almost like Van enjoyed making Earn feel out of place in her hometown. I’ll also admit I just don’t care for her character like that, I really wish I did but I feel like he deserves better

Great points about Earn being honest with the therapist about all that, but then again he was kinda dishonest by not telling him about how he arranged that whole thing to get back at Lisa and about how he believes he doesn't need therapy anymore My interpretation was something that just randomly hit me days after I watched the episode, I'll need to rewatch to see which side of the fence I land on

Since we talking about how Donald potentially drew from his real life experience as an RA, Van might be similar to his real life baby momma She can't really relate to his experience and I've always wondered what that relationship was like because Atlanta has so much to say about the black experience and his Asian wifey can't really relate to any of it. It's not really the same because Van looks black and the German heritage is something they probably wanted to incorporate because of Zazie but those moments you mentioned of her being unsympathetic might be inspired by actual events
