They shoehorned her into this season. She has no reason to be in Europe with them.

Gonna be really disappointed if they don't address her depressed ass this season

It’s entertaining sure. But it’s a very big writers no no. If the season doesn’t honor those episodes and tie it up in some way rewarding it’s going to look sloppy. Those episodes are fantastic. But that s*** needs to either have a conclusion or it needs to be it’s own show. It can definitely make the audience feel cheated if they don’t conclude it well. Imo

Huh? “Writers no no”? Bc they’re taking an unorthodox approach to writing television by inserting a few anthology episodes between the usual format? The point is they’re not supposed to tie in directly. How would they? Each episode seems to exist in a separate universe that the main cast isn’t walking in. They’ve insinuated they’re all dream sequences. What more do you need to just appreciate what the show is offering? You already said the episodes are fantastic so I’m just lost as to why you think they need to do more with them to satisfy.

    "Hmm I don’t think so.
I think it’s still very conventional with its story telling. It’s done things that maybe people havnt been exposed to or has framed them in interesting ways but on a technical standpoint it has had a pretty conventional structure. And that’s not bad. Don’t take my criticism as downplaying the greatness of the show. I’m just saying if those episodes aren’t wrapped up nicely it’s going to look sloppy. Because it feels like it’s being different for the sake of different and not different with a purpose in the way that the previous seasons had felt. The main through line of the season with “the curse of whiteness” is fantastic but also feels like their preaching to a choir because I feel like anyone watching the show and has stayed with it all relatively feel same thing. The message just feels flat. It’s cool it exists and I’m happy for it to exist. But I don’t think anyone watching the show is so tone def to culture that their mind is blown and changes their perception as I think it’s more of a general consensus among it’s audiences. Therefore, that’s why I hope it concludes and is wrapped up in a way that feels rewarding instead of “hey we’re avant-garde”."

Thanks. Not much I can argue with with what you said there besides the conclusion you’re craving.

To me each episode gets concluded in their own way, so I’m just confused as to what they could’ve did more while not sacrificing the anthology format. I feel like for what they’re doing, they’re executing it about as good as they can. Society has progressed enough to where these episodes themes seem like a nail on the head, but I feel like the way they’re approaching the ideas is genuine and unique enough to be appreciated the way they intended.

I'm not saying their not but the show also isn't an "anthology" so when you decide to change your format in that particular direction it does feel a tad bit out of place and not in the good way that Atlanta has been known to do.

You seem to have a rigid idea for what this show should be and I think that is one important element that the creators intentionally tried to disrupt during this season.

My own theory is the creators got tired of creating a show with all sorts of nuances and messages aimed at black audiences while also having a large white audience enjoy it. So they had a mission to make the white audience uncomfortable this season. The main cast eps still have more of this than the previous seasons, but I think the anthology episodes are where the creators really have free reign to do whatever to focus on the “white curse” theme.

Idk I definitely understand the criticism with the direction it’s went this season, I just don’t want folks to hate it just bc it’s taking certain risks.

Let's pretend the show never existed. Do ya'll think if Season 2 or 3 was compressed together into a 2 hour film it would be dope? Only take the episodes that the main cast is in, and maybe take about 20 minutes of each episodes so it equals to around 2 hours.

Like a surreal type hangout film that doesn't really feel like its going anywhere plot wise. Or does Atlanta only work as a show.

S3 as a film could work. S2 as a movie is a silly suggestion.

That’s the problem with this show.

They spend too much time trying to edgy with race relations and not enough time on plot and character development.

The last episode was a great character development episode though. We need more episodes that hone in on characters like that.

Most shows today are lacking great character development.

That’s a byproduct of all these shorter seasons that a lot of shows have opted into.

When shows had longer seasons they had way more time to devote whole episodes to developing characters and sharing their backstory and purpose.

We need more long form shows again with 15-20 episodes per a season.
