I think its clear that Darius has very little focus on him at the moment. Earn is just here for the story too, not much is happening to him immediately, especially compared to Van or Al. im actually glad they switched focus like that, there's a lot of crew dynamic now and you have to follow everybody to get the entire picture

It’s not that it’s just lakeith acting is all
over it’s like Darius is just a character now of himself. He use to be weird and chill and now he’s over the top about being weird.

Yeah especially how his side plot was hardly acknowledged, usually his space cadet adventures lead somewhere. Feels like he’s getting flandered

tbh this episode left me feeling very mad and disappointed in the main characters more than anyone else. why tf was Socks still with them in the first place?

it’s like Al and Earn didn’t learn anything from the Nando’s party fiasco in episode 3. even in this episode, mans was still acting wild. calling himself the white Liam Neeson and almost dropping the N but Al still keeps him around??

“Three Slaps” is still my favorite episode of the season. as the season goes on, the more I feel like it lays the blueprint for everything.

I keep thinking back to what Loquareeous’ mom said - “if you don’t use your head and starting acting right, these white people gon’ kill you!” because that’s exactly what’s happening here.

the main characters are really off their game this season. Al has lost his passion for rap, Earn is super busy and disconnected from Van, who is having her own existential crisis. We haven’t gotten that much on Darius and his state of mind yet unfortunately but it seems like the general theme is the characters all being incredibly vulnerable, which makes them less guarded and more susceptible to being f***ed over by people like Socks, Wiley, Nando, etc.

I expect a lil more f***ery to happen in the next few episodes but by the finale, I predict that the group, much like Loquareeous in episode 1, will eventually find their strength and create happy endings for themselves. Socks will def get his comeuppance

    I can’t wait for episode 6 :

On rewatch they really should've checked Socks right after that white Liam Neeson s*** cause all that really was some extra s***

they should have checked him as soon as it went missing tbh

they barely know this nigga, which just goes to show how off their game they are

I think socks is a psycho and was offended that Al made fun of their strippers. The way he’s framed in that scene looks a little ominous

And I think Wiley was just a creepy internet stan-type. Which is what makes their connection in the one-on-one scene really really interesting to me.

Wiley and Socks were infuriating throughout the episode, man

I do like Wiley in the end though. There's definitely more to him than it seems though. He was definitely serving as some sort of reflection of things Paperboi is dealing with, and therefore at the same time not being entirely 'real'. He's a part of Paperboi, a projection even if you will. That's why he knows his phone number, that's why he knows those lyrics. That one on one scene with Paperboi was great, and the song was powerful.

I like how Atlanta leaves a lot of stuff up in the air, and just flat-out puts stuff in there that makes 0 sense (like Folk calling Wiley his 19 year old cousin he ain't seen in 15 years, but then dude saying he 32 lmaooo what, the cancer attack lmfaooo). It's used to emphasize that this world Atlanta is taking place in isn't supposed to be the logical one you're used to living in. Keep your eyes on what's happening, right now, and not on what you think you know. It's probably also why they've used such a big time skip, of like 2 years, because they're not the exact same characters now, than when you've got to know em in s1 and 2.
I'm rambling, but Atlanta really killing it
You just gotta wake up n see it

i loved wiley man because they really captured that weird tension between fandom and artist

feel like a lot of the criticism the show is getting feels like the usual "this doesnt immediately make sense to me" that happens when watching a classic scene in real time

i feel like this will be a lot like s2 of mr robot where it won't get appreciated until we see how much this season sets up the next one, and how all these character moments will build us up for a much larger narrative

maybe it's just me but cowboy bebop taught me, the tv format isn't gonna have the same narrative arc as a movie. the best show runners know this, and that's what's always made atlanta great.

instead of getting a point a to point b tale on the life and time of rapper on some entourage s*** we really get several nuanced portraits on celebrity, fame, capitalism, race

i understand the frustration, but honestly it feels like the yt ppl aren't liking this season more than anything. which i find funny because i think EVERY single episode thus far has done commentary way deeper than "yt ppl = bad" starting from the very first dream scene in the first episode.

if u feel like the show is aimless i really urge you to reconsider what you want out of this show, because if it's "the life of paperboi" then you might as well give up now and start Dave

s*** didn't have any subtlety to it man. they literally had the redneck spell out the entire theme of the episode. which like... is this episode for white people who didn't already understand this?

I can't speak for everyone but for me I dislike this episode solely based on execution. I don't care that it doesn't follow the main cast, I thought three slaps was great.

donald always said he wanted to make the most accessible art

ppl gave baldwin similar criticisms during his time

i'm not mad at this approach simply because it's done effectively

im not into the business of teaching yt ppl slavery, but it is nice to think that art in the 21st century, still has the power to impact and change peoples hearts

It’s difficult to say what each season of Atlanta is about without having seen most of it, but at this juncture, the third season has had more narrative detours than its predecessors. How do you feel about television that doesn’t necessarily advance the plot in a conventional manner?

I guess it’s kind of personal, but I find it exciting. I get a little bored by the constant linear narrative of everything that’s out there. I’ve always loved anthology shows and I think, in a way, this season of Atlanta is almost an extension of Black Mirror, which was an extension of The Twilight Zone, which has been around forever. I’ve always loved those types of shows and, personally, I’ve heard from a couple of other writers that some people on Twitter get annoyed that Atlanta doesn’t do this or doesn’t do that. I don’t understand it, I think they’ve created these beloved characters that we all want to live with and watch their stories.

But I think when we’re dealing with the true talent of what this show is able to display—when you’re talking about Donald and Stephen Glover; when you’re talking about writers like Francesca Sloane; when you’re talking about Hiro Murai and his entire crew; when you’re talking about all of the cast, writers, and producers—this is a rare, special show that we, if we’re fans of television and entertainment in general, need to just pause, watch, and see what they have to say. Because not only is it interesting, it’s important, it’s entertaining, it’s brilliant, and it’s art. They’ve earned the right to show an entire season and then have viewers look back and be like, “Oh wow, look at the way this all connects. Look at what they’re doing.” It’s not a full anthology show, it’s not a full episodic show, it’s almost kind of a new thing that we should just enjoy and have conversations about before we judge.

    yea he def gets it
