Believe it or not, before it became popular to drop a single for the charts and then just slap it on the end of your next album so its stream/downloads would count towards the album's sales, there was a thing called a "promo single" — where artists would drop 1, 2, or even 3 standalone or "b-side" singles just to "promote" an upcoming album.
After a couple years or so, it was even common for artists to release a "compilation album" that was made up of all their recent b-sides and different versions of various songs from other albums (sometimes even including entirely new songs never released before).
But promo singles were only a popular thing to do in the music industry for like the past 70 years, so it's understandable why people today might find the idea of them strange and unfamiliar
miss this, perfect way to give the people music but not end up releasing half the album
makes the album listening experience so much better bc you have a higher percentage of brand new tracks
