If Nancy or Schumer were on their deathbed Dems wouldn’t waste any time with a life support machine because they’re from California and New York, so it would be easy to replace them with another Dem. They’d be missing out on a vote otherwise. Same reason would apply to like Ted Cruz or Rick Scott on the GOP side cause they’re in Texas and Florida.

McConnell is in Kentucky where Andy Beshear (a Democrat) is currently governor. So the GOP would be risking a Democrat replacing him until a special election was held.
