In a 2011 interview with Complex, Frank Ocean spoke about the meaning of the mixtape’s title & artwork, which provided some insight into the various stylizations:
"It’s nostalgic. It’s a longing for the past. That’s what this record felt like. I named it five minutes before we finished mastering. Right before we had to write the labels on the CDs and get out of there. Ultra, because it’s also modern because of the sonics of it. It felt right. That’s how I am. I just go with it. The only big debate was whether I was going to use the slash or the comma, but the comma felt right, too.
When I did the artwork after we mastered it, I was feeling the same thing. That’s my dream car. It’s been my dream car for a minute. That E30 M3. That’s been my s***. I was the kid who had a bunch of car posters and girls in bikinis, all over my wall in middle school."

I miss when Frank made music
i used to feel a lot like there was a big frank sized hole in music and culture for a lot of the 2020s that no one has even come remotely close to filling. i mean i still feel like that, but im used to it atp, and that has a lot less to do with frank himself and more to do with how much s***'s changed, really. doubt there'd even be an FO if he had come out now, as great as it is it'd just be drowned out by the insane noise.
he's clearly done, at least with music, and im thankful for what he did put out in the end. i needed to take a long break from his stuff but eh, ill prolly run this one back for the anniversary.
