Def jam shelved Nostalgia ultra so he had to release it for free, and that came with bs. And judging by the interview with the bbc/whatever network it was on, Bro was not happy with the process of creating an album and it was more of a "labor of love"

He was stuck on channel orange and it was almost scrapped. Frank himself was surprised that he actually finished the project. and even that came with baggage with the whole ommas keith sueing and presumably cutting ties with malay
