grieving or not, i am still never gonna excuse that pathetic bullshit he pulled at coachella. blows my mind how people still defend the way he handled that entire situation. im ngl it genuinely did make me see him in a different light and turned me off his music for a long time after that especially since i had tickets for it too. dude made some last minute changes, ruined his own performance, then faked a leg injury to bail out of the following weekend.

    Eh, fans weird

i agree completely. my only issue is people trying to downplay what was actually performed and the quality of what was actually performed, which as someone who has seen basically all of his life performances because there aren't that many, this was pretty much his best, especially vocally, assuming he didn't use some live pitch correction f***ery bc they got that now.

other than that you're right, and i don't blame anyone for feeling this way. i haven't really listened to his music in years at this point for a variety of reasons, and only really feel compelled to go back to endless and sometimes cO when i do.

Tbh I disagree even with that. I saw Frank at FYF 2017 and his performance at that was MILES above whatever the hell he pulled at Coachella.

FYF 2017 was an hour and a half of purely him singing and engaging with the crowd. He was locked in, had a curated setlist, everything looked like it was rehearsed properly and it was overall just way more polished. It was probably one of the most perfect performances I’ve ever experienced.

Compare that to Coachella when he there was a 20 minute “DJ” segment of him just jumping around the stage. He didn’t even perform CHANEL OR NIGHTS, all he did was just walk around the stage and vibe to the songs. It was just so blatantly lazy and half assed and you could tell he just didn’t give a f*** at all about that performance. Yea there were glimpses of some greatness in there but overall it was so pathetic from someone of Frank’s caliber.

well that last part the karaoke part was like you said like the last 20 minutes and im not trying to excuse it, it's inexcusable, but overall wasn't even close to most of the performance. vocally for example, fyf's vocals were occasionally great but often pitchy and spotty, like all those 2017 shows, prolly because nerves, whereas his vocal performances at coachella were almost entirely flawless. couple that with the unique reworks of all of the actually performed songs and you have some generational renditions. yes they were marred by the mishaps and the pathetic s*** you mentioned, but when i look at it in a vacuum those renditions stick with me. both runs had stellar moments, like the brad pitt thing to the moog solo at the end of godspeed among MANY highlights from coachella.

and i love crystallmess so i loved that homer radio dj set with the mashups it's a matter of taste

with Coachella you either got it or you didn't, for me it was a beautifully tender moment watching it, if you didn't feel at least some sort of mixed emotions and all you felt was hate then you can't come back from that... I loved it, it was all over the place I loved it

I don’t think it’s a matter of “getting it” lol. There was nothing to get. It was just simply a much more lackluster and less realized performance compared to the entire festival run he had in 2017. Like I said, Coachella definitely had some gem moments (At Your Best, White Ferrari, PARTS of the DJ set, etc.) but in terms of a fully realized vision, Frank clearly was just winging it and some parts seemed so half baked.

I just wish he would tour again. I know it’ll probably never happen again but I just know if he REALLY locked in he would give us an amazing tour or at least some type of concert run

I'm expressing something much more emotional than semantics and specifics, I experienced an emotional response while watching the performance so there's no set of words you could line up that takes that back, if you didn't feel an emotional response that's fine and understandable and you can use your words to explain it if you'd like

I completely agree, it was a beautiful performance if you ask me, I just wish he had time to finish the setlist

That's the only thing I would tangentially agree on but I feel like it diminishes how beautiful it was to focus on it so I am perfectly happy it being left as it was 🙏
