It was not a throwaway by definition. He sold the album on vinyl and had an entirely different set of recording sessions specifically for the album

It was a release that had its own intentions that, while politically charged, were artistically coherent and honest

That “different recording sessions” thing is not true; it’s an assumption made by non creatives

Anyone with a brain can tell that Endless was born from the same sessions as Blond. Frank was able to execute both projects so well that it made them feel very distinct. The structuring of Endless was genius and made it more than the sum of its parts. It stands on its own, but it is made up of things that didn’t make Blond. One way to know that the projects are fluid is that Mitsubishi Sony was supposed to be on Blond. The nostalgic storytelling should be a tip off too.

Not hard to imagine the words of Alabama, Slide On Me, and Comme de Garçon fitting with the themes on Blond. “Suburbia got a yard all this estate for my mind to run” that part always screamed blond too

Obviously Frank made a s*** ton of music in those 4 years, and I don’t believe there was “blond sessions” and “endless sessions” during that until late in the process. It’s much more likely he had a pile of ideas and curated them into two projects

Trying something different and not just giving the hits would be, idk maybe performing new music and giving a visual performance, the problem with the set wasn’t that he didn’t play the hits lol he did play the hits

You’re making it like he did something so daring and people weren’t ready for his dance direction, he barely showed that once again. The execution was s*** and the whole thing is half assed.

replying to your edit i didnt say he did something daring im saying he didnt get on that stage and perform the songs people love in the way that they love them for them to sing a long with like he did in 2017

thats what coachella audience that arent frank stans want and thats not a bad thing but you can watch these videos of his full set and hear the crowd trying to keep up with crack rock and they cant even do that because he keeps switching it on them

and the response from even his stans shows they clearly werent ready for the dance direction because they did NOT like that s*** despite its quality

you can argue why that happened but it definitely happened

    Bro lmao

The stans aren’t happy with the execution. People would go for the dance direction if he premiered music, if Frank performed a new album in full there would be no one complaining about him not playing hits and no one hating on a DJ set. I really think you’re misunderstanding the reaction.

It’s dumb to half ass this dance direction without any music to back it up and expect people to love it. The whole thing was half assed as if he didn’t care

I have the dvd. I regret not getting the vinyl at the time, but wanted the visual aspect in physical form for that album.

Same bro, glad I got a physical copy of it but really wish I went for the vinyl

Niggas who thought Frank would premiere a brand new album as the headliner of Coachella should be collecting disability checks

finally watched i dont think that was anywhere close to the disaster people are making it out to be

its a solid set with some hiccups that just doesnt fit the occasion

coachella goers want hits and didnt get them i think thats fine some artists are gonna try something different on a stage like this sometimes and maybe it wont fit the mood

but frank maybe doesnt realise that his hardcore fans havent been able to sit with his change in sound for as long as he has, while he's on stage talking about how this rave s*** and remixing has become a huge part of his life and work we havent had the chance to experience that outside of a couple of songs because covid shut it all down and he wasnt able to ramp it all back up before this set

so im not surprised after all these years people are a little shocked by a bunch of remixes and a whole dj set

but it all sounded great, visuals were great and i think if we never heard anything about an ice rink everyone would agree with that my only real faults is him just letting nikes and nights play out instead of performing them like he has before and being late enough to not be able to finish properly because of the curfew (he did this when i saw him in 2017 and it sucked then too)

i dont understand the constant mention of long pauses between songs or the crazier theory that all the vocals were pre recorded its just dogpiling at this point

Do you have links to the dance remixes? Been dying to hear them but haven’t found any

i dont get how the quality of a dj set or a performance changes due to a lack of new music ?

we're saying the same thing the performance is not what the crowd wanted the only thing we disagree on is that you didnt like it and i did lmao

    Actually a fascinating listen

    TLDW:

These two were some of the ice skaters hired. They had rehearsed for months leading up and heard rumors around 3PM that day that Frank had injured himself and the ice skating wasn't going to happen

Said around 120 were scheduled to skate and only around 30 ended up walking, these two were offered but chose to just attend and give their spots to other skaters

Also said he was very cool during all the rehearsals and was super excited about the performance but day of something changed and Frank was the one who scrapped idea. This is what took them by surprise given how much anticipation there was by Frank during all the time leading up

Both also said they could 100% see him bailing on Weekend 2 and that Coachella coordinators are livid with Frank for last minute changes and f***-ups

Guy on right kept reiterating how chill Frank was to be around and that he was very professional during rehearsals

Overall seems like something (whether it was getting injured who knows) triggered Frank day of and he just said f*** it and cancelled everything they had planned and outcome was very different from what was scheduled

It’s very unreasonable, mind ya business you have no clue what’s happening bts

but we do know lol we know he threatened to pull out if they didn't make last minute changes and we know that they're refusing to acknowledge the performance even happened

that's a pretty fair reason for someone to question whether hes gonna be there next weekend especially if they have $500 invested in a ticket to see him

at the end of the day that’s all just assumption based on behind the scenes stories which vary in credibility

the facts are that a contract is still in place

and unless either party comes out and says otherwise, the show goes on

its not really assumption based they've posted about every single performer other than him and hes a headliner lmao

its funny seeing this get retconned

it wasn't a complete s***show of a performance and the parts that were great were really great but it was pretty f***ing bizarre for a headline coachella performance, exceedingly disjointed and was pretty apparent to every single person in the audience that something weird had happened

I can understand that watching the livestream you can pick the parts you enjoyed but to show up late and do what he did was very very unusual and pretty hard to pretend it was a good performance as a whole in really any way shape or form. and im a huge frank fan who definitely found a lot of joy in his performance regardless but I can also accept that it was by any real measure not a good show

We have literally no clue, it’s all hearsay and you’re forming absolute truths from bits and pieces that came from strangers not even Frank himself

Assuming someone is mad when you literally have no clue how they feel is very parasocial

He's left the narrative around this performance to hearsay, some of which has been stretched or straight up made up to better fit narratives. Not streaming this has come back to bite him in the ass.
