What do people mean when they say a fragrance smells too synthetic?

Sniff a sharpie or marker. It's that sort of idea.

The ingredients dont smell natural

Smells like fake ingredients, hits your nose differently, in a sharp punch rather than the way a natural scent would hit your nose.
