I played xv: royal 3 years ago and it was extremely mediocre as I just said.

Everyone keeps telling me to play the DLC but why would I want to do that when the base game has just left me no reason to? I have no interest in the story after finishing it and the gameplay wasn’t good enough to warrant me spending 20 or so hours on an expansion. One of the games biggest f*** up is actually putting these character arcs in DLCs and movies instead of the base game. I read that im supposed to play these DLCs after certain chapters in the game but how the f*** am I supposed to know that The games delivery of the story/lore was just terrible.

There just aren’t many good things I can say about this game. World is beautiful but all they did with it was fill it with useless fetch quests. OST was nice tho and I like that you can play tracks from previous FF games. My favourite thing from the game got to be the just seeing monsters walking around in the open world tho, its just dope asf to see and makes the open world feel more alive (actually playing xiv right now and how alive it is definitely one of my favourite things about it)

Worst thing about the game was the combat which was extremely shallow, you didn’t need to engage with the game at all to get through most encounters. I actually remember occasions where I was playing the game with one hand and browsing the internet on the other.

They give you skills but the animation for them is so long that you actually avoid using them because it makes the fight longer. They put you, your 3 allies and 4 other monsters in a small ass corridor and the camera forgets how to work. You literally cant die because as soon as you reach 0 hp they give you the option to use a phoenix down as long as you have one in your inventory. You hold X to perform a combo and hold Y to dodge every incoming attack as long as you have mana (which is extremely easy to recover). The games just a mess. I havent played many FF games (played 6, need sony to just remaster all of them smh) but this is the worst FF game I have ever played (might be an unfair comparison though because it is the only open world FF game)

I didnt really mind it but it really reminded me of gaming in like 97 like extreme sports games with awful controls before tony hawk came out. Aint no nostalgia, just Stockholm syndrome

Playing through this atm, never played the OG.
Amazing game, characters and their dynamics are great and graphics are crazy. Only done 7 chapters so far but really looking forward to the next parts already. XV was my first FF I completed and I was hyped for years but it never lived up to the hype but this is fire

You aren’t playing XV properly then. There are plenty link combos you can perform with party members
