Of course they are but how sad it is. Castrating your vision of your creation to cater to people who don't really care about it that much

yeah, but this is culture atp. The reason they do things like this is also the reason they haven't really been able to make a game that supplants FF7 (or even like 13) in the cultural imagination.

These games are way too big for anyone to have creative ownership of. I love these games for sure, but they are at their essence, just ff7 "the ride".

they don't really have the same themes as the first and they're kind of too long and too scattered to have the impact that the original's narrative did.

“I do feel apologetic toward anyone who feels there’s just too much to overcome in my games,” Miyazaki said in a recent interview with the New Yorker. “I just want as many players as possible to experience the joy that comes from overcoming hardship.”

“We are always looking to improve, but, in our games specifically, hardship is what gives meaning to the experience. So, it's not something we're willing to abandon at the moment. It's our identity.”

I hate this s*** in modern gaming so much. So many options for everything, games stop being games and simply a tailor made product to give you that 1 hour of endorphin and not challenge you whatsoever. How can you be proud of your creation when you don't even believe in its main gameplay loop. When will this medium start loving itself

B-but its just an option!! You don’t have to engage with it!! /s

I hate that this can be applied to music and cinema as well. I just hate how everything has become a product built for mindless consumption and entertainment. Art gives meaning and color to life, and now it's treated the same as a hamburger, something to chew on until you're satiated and can move on to the next hamburger. I genuinely want gatekeeping back

I've been beating a dead horse for years now, but these people don't love games or treat them as art whatsoever

I honestly don't see how attracting the kind of playerbase that doesnt like playing your games can do good for the series...

I wonder how from software managed to sell 30 million copies with elden ring, something not even ff7 og managed to ever do. Surely it must be because of the plentiful "accessibility options" that can oneshot the shardbearers and the free level up option along with a very easy mode

the craziest part of the 2020's is that the great defining cultural addition of our time is just gooning

we need cultural criticism and gatekeeping back, I don't think everyone's art should be praised equally

i mean that consuming and engorging yourself on media meant to stave off boredom has created a level of cultural stagnation that is very disturbing

i'm talking about dudes on reddit who crank it for like 6 hours straight

Remake is on sale. Why do people like these games? I'm asking as somebody who's been baffled by turn based content but looking to learn. Is the story good? Or it's a video game story ™️ (aka gets the job done)

Fromsoftware is beloved because they minimize the friction from the game mechanics and instead place it squarely on the player. If I'm dying, it's on me and I need to figure out if it's my timing or resources lacking.

Combat is the best part. Plays like a typical action adventure with light, heavy attacks and block/dodge. You build up a meter allowing you to use abilities/spells/items and that's more turn based because the game pauses while you select what you want to use. 4 playable characters, all of them play differently and all are extremely fun to play so combat never gets old

I wasn't really invested in the story. A lot of anime grunts and sighs. Every female character is all over Cloud and he just does this cold/nonchalant gimmick I feel like the main appeal of the story is seeing what changes they made which means nothing to me who never played the original. The game also felt like a part of a story rather than a complete experience, you still have a lot of questions by the end. Apparently they took the first like 6 hours of original FF VII and stretched it out to a whole game here. So it actually feels padded, even cutscenes feel slower than they need to

Side content is mid which adds to that padded feeling. Again, combat is the best part and was my main drive to finish the game. I couldn't wait to advance the story so I could get to another challenging boss, it really is a fun combat system

They really stretched out (pause) one game into three parts huh... Aight, Imma see if I get it when the whole trilogy is out cus I'm not tryna play a game that's not only padded to the gills but incomplete

If you definitely plan on playing the trilogy eventually and you got Plus, I'd play Remake now in this gap before GTA if you're looking for something to play. No guarantee that they're dropping a complete collection on current gen, Rebirth will probably be cheap/maybe even free after 3 drops and playing +/- 100 hours of a trilogy in a row doesn't sound as appealing as breaking it up into chunks imo

Dead ass missed the announcement of the physical deluxe edition lol, I’ve been so behind. Didn’t know about the Tomb Raider Atlantis one either, but that one doesn’t come with a disc

I need to grab one, already have the physical deluxe of Remake & Rebirth. Would suck to miss this one.
