I dont mind linear games but FF7 really did feel way to hallwayish and claustrophobic. I wanted to explore Midgar more.
Yeah I was in the mood for playing an actual RPG game not an interactive movie game. You don't even have to earn the loot, the chests are placed literally in front of you. And yeah I recently read an interview about 16 and yeah it's going to be linear. Supposedly the creator wants to focus on the games having a movie experience.
Right! I missed getting better gear if I used 'steal' or from farming certain monsters. Or going to optional places in the game world and finding special weapons or gear. Now, everything is literally laid out on the trail. Stuff like that.
It's lazy now. I'm tired of video games trying to be movies. If I wanted a movie, I'd go watch one.
what are you top open world games?
My favorite ones off top are Breath of The Wild and Elden Ring. There are a lot I enjoyed too but I'm to lazy to go through what I've played right now. But those two are definitely top 2

FFXV wasn't even bad, one of the best FFs imo
it definitely wasn't good. no way you're using the fact it was rushed as an excuse
Lol naw. That's easily my favorite FF game. The open worldness spoiled me. Because I recently tried FF7R and I dropped it halfway because I couldn't stand how linear it was.
that doesn't change anything
FFXV not even a great open world game, and it's def one of the weakest in the franchise. plot, gameplay, graphics, etc were all pretty subpar tbh
how yall talkin about "linear bad" and ff7, when XV literally forces you on rails til the end at some point. One chapter is a literal hallway

esp after they hyped up how much more midgar was fleshed out
at least now we should have way more areas to explore. Since it's confirmed a 3 parter, i wonder where this part will end. Nibel maybe? no way we go to end of disc 1

Naw it's a good open world to me, graphics are better, also gameplay is better, there's just so much more to do compared to what I played on 7. The only thing that was better about 7 to me was the combat. That's it.
I won't compare the plots because I didn't/haven't finished 7.

Dont know but if Aeris doesnt die by the end of it theyre gonna have a lot to pack into part 3. I think we'll definitely get the Gold Saucer and Yuffie/Cid stuff at least. Vincent DLC would make sense too, like they did with Yuffie.

bro it's been over 20 years why are you spoilering that
you think we'll get to golden saucer? i'd be surprised since the first part was only midgar, and that's like 1/3 of disc 1 so idk

When FFXV first launched the graphics were some of the best out there, i say this as someone that played it on launch day on a Ps4. You had to be there that s*** looked f***ing amazing at the time, the demos looked amazing too
Bro must not have played it until a couple years after cause that was one of the best looking games at the time

i played it on release on og ps4 and pro.
graphics weren't anything special to me, tons of times game was blurry and choppy, and the demos literally looked like low bitrate at times, but whatever excuses you gotta find i guess

Go look at other games that released around that time
It was revealed in the last live letter for XIV that Natsuko Ishikawa has been promoted to a supervisor position while Daichi Hiroi has taken over as lead writer (recent work includes 6.x main scenario, Pandaemonium, and Tataru's Grand Endeavor).
I don't think you just take the reins away from someone who is as skilled in their craft as Ishikawa is without good reason, especially after hitting two back-to-back home runs with Shadowbringers and Endwalker. Combine this with the fact that Unit III has basically completed development on XVI and are now on a hiring spree, their next project might already be in pre-production with Ishikawa as the lead writer (or at least I hope so 🙏🏽).
Still lowkey upset at how they made this seem like it was almost ready to come out then boom! A whole another year
Looks like IGN accidentally uploaded their FF16 trailer write up which was scheduled to release this month. They’ve taken it town, but people have saved it!
“ A new Final Fantasy XVI trailer has arrived, shedding more light on a world that in some ways resembles an even more fantastic version of Ivalice — the realm popularized by Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII.
As revealed in the new trailer, the land of Valisthea is evidently dying as its crystals slowly fade. A voiceover intones, “Darkness spreads as day gives way to twilight, the mother’s flame now all but a flicker. We cannot live without the blessing of the crystals.”
Crystals are a famous part of Final Fantasy's lore going back to the original game. While they haven't been in every single Final Fantasy game, they're generally included as a more nostalgic element in the series. Their inclusion in Final Fantasy XVI suggests that Square Enix is intent on honing in on iconic imagery from the franchise despite differences like the action-oriented combat.
The trailer goes on to highlight the various kingdoms, each with its own theme: The Grand Duchy of Rosaria, “a bastion of tradition”; the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, “where ambition is divine”; the Dhalmekian Republic, “where fortune shifts with the desert sands”; The Iron Kingdom, “forged in faith and fear”; and the Kingdom of Waloed, “indomitable in its isolation.”
As previously revealed by Square Enix, each kingdom has its own summon, or “Eikon.” Rosaria’s Eikon is Phoenix, while the Eikons of several of the other kingdoms have yet to be revealed. The trailer hints at a major war between the various kingdoms as they battle to “claim the fading light” of the crystals.
Both Clive and Joshua make appearances in the trailer, with Joshua once again shown summoning Phoenix, and Clive exploring something called “the Deadlands” with several other party members As in the previous trailer, Eikons play a major role. Aside from Ifrit, a mysterious tapestry featuring a multitude of summons is glimpsed at the end of the trailer, which ought to give knowledgeable Final Fantasy fans an idea of what to expect going forward.”
