I hope spider man 2side quest aren’t this bad
Given the fact that the game uses mostly the same map, I’m hoping that would lead to an improvement on side content.
It was probably the single biggest criticism leveled on the first.
How far are you lol I am wondering what slump of the game you are in ?
I was just playing, but I think I'm like 40-45% in. Post second time skip, just about to get the boat from Clive's uncle, I believe.
Nah, I'm just joking. I do agree with pretty much everything you said. For the side content and stuff like that, I'm looking at this game as more of an action game rather than a typical JRPG, so it bothers me much less.
Kinda the same with exploration, but I can't really put into words why I have more of a problem with that. I actually even prefer something like the old Trails games with the isometric view and really simple "hallway" maps to something like this. I guess this definitely has more exploration, but there's just something missing for me.
It probably has to do with the environments being so detailed that you want to explore but you know that nah you can’t jump over the log and no you can cross that ankle length stream cus there are invisible walls left and right
Vs hallway style it is what it is. Just keep moving forward
I still find myself trying to jump over stuff or trying to go somewhere I probably won’t be able to go
Apparently you should just do side quests that feature a + mark.
Those are the substantial ones.
Not even wrong
Which is actually kind of crazy given the budget difference.
Alright, let's not say Yakuza's storytelling is some incredibly high bar to reach when each game has some stupid bullshit like rubber bullets, twin brother CIA agent, double accidental locker-baby swap, or a character named Mirror Face who can magically look like anyone (all of which are used as MAJOR plot points/twists.
Also, high budget =/= quality of storytelling or quest structure.

oh s*** you are farther than me by some . How are you guys easily seeing percentage?
For me its probably the lack of party interactions. Idk if you noticed but outside the actual story its as if Cid/Jill don't actually exists.
If you take a side quest the game acts like they are not with you, they don't comment on what just unfolded on the side quest, they literally just act as lifeless AI to provide more damage.
Whats even worse actually is that the party members barely interact with the other party members, they really only have a relationship with Clive.
I feel like Jills character has been handled especially poorly. In the intro she seems extremely close to Torgal but when we are reunited she doesn't even acknowledge his existence. I know the story has a focus on Clive but I feel like they forgot they have other characters they need to develop in the game too. Which again, is funny because they are quite good at this in XIV
EDIT: Also agree with you that I have had to kind of approach this game as if its not a JRPG, kinda hard to do that sometimes though considering its a Final Fantasy game
Yeah, I was actually going to post at some point yesterday or today that I wished there was some form of party banter. Even just a "nice job character name!" or something to that effect.
I know Cid chimes in a couple times, but it's all part of the story, never when you're out doing side quests. Jill doesn't say a peep, and like you said, she's (and other optional members) pretty much just a body to deal extra damage.
I'm still very much enjoying the game, but there are definitely a handful of questionable decisions that were made.

lol when people say their side quest is good I don't trust them when they don't realize not all side content should be the same mechanisms as the main quest. It shouldn't just be go to this location beat someone up and sometimes adding in other fun stuff to do in the game all helps the experience

My bad
If you close the game from the PS5 home menu and hover over it, it'll show a story % progress, along with hours played. Looks like I'm at 44%.

nah you are good on spoilers don't worry about that. I more meant oh s*** because that means I am about to hit mid
. Story no part of this story is majorly gripping to me I just enjoy the anime ass s***. When this game takes itself seriously its very hit or miss for me.
Oh I am 30%
I love Skill Up for being a real one cause most people can't say what he said and not get cooked. I been saying it lol
There are some homework or grind feeling parts between the epic moments. Lacking exploration , side quest that hit and always taking itself so serious makes it flow odd so far at least . I am about 10 hours on
Like I’m constantly like why did they do this on many decisions where they had a lay up .
It should have been an open zone game. Like 4-5 little open worlds and some hubs which encourage exploration etc.
It’s basically a hack and slash

Its a fire hack and slash though as someone who normally doesn't get into hack and slash. For all the effort that went into the story and world the execution is just missing in a way I didn't expect

I agree.
The combat is great and the story seems good. I just think the parts that makes RPG’s memorable isn’t here.
It’s a very linear game, shouldn’t even be called a RPG.

the towns having a day night cycle with ai behavior that made them feel more alive and react slightly more to the player would go a long way. The worse part is I am someone who likes to try all side content like I cant bring myself to just skip it all so doing some of this s*** lol
Sidequests are very mid
Are they just determined to not show Clive showing the full range of human emotions?
Yeah, I was actually going to post at some point yesterday or today that I wished there was some form of party banter. Even just a "nice job character name!" or something to that effect.

Feels like a lot of these decisions were made to appeal to people who don't like RPGs ngl
just did the fake friends side quest. I hate the completionism in me lmfao I do but I got to chip away at all these s***s
Sidequests are very mid
Skip them. I would only do side quests with a '+' symbol (you will know when you see it) since these quests unlock useful features

I AM NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO SKIP SIDE QUEST MAYBE ONE OF THEM IS WORTHWHILE

They did say they wanted it to appeal to a wider audience, so yeah, makes sense.
Also, awful taste by those dorks

I'm a completionist but I have done 18 side quests and only 2 of them were good, I'm not doing them bro
