is Astrologian just a better White Mage or are the two classes pros/cons really different
just play what you wanna play. the jobs are very well balanced.

I wanted an hybrid support/dps and the white mage seemed appropriate to fulfill this role I hope I was right

well since there's the tank, healer, dps triad, you're gonna end up either leaning more into healing or damage, depending on the one you choose.
optimally played, i believe astrologian does more damage than white mage (though again, doesn't matter at all). think white mage is a bit easier to play and has access to holy, which i'm sure your party would appreciate
if you wanna do more damage, but help your team out a bit, you can go red mage (heals, instant res), bard, or dancer. those are all dps jobs, but have some decent support capabilities.

This will be helpful thanks! Is the red mage like average in everything or is actually capable of doing great things in those lanes?

RDM is actually stupid good (i play one, actually and love it). super easy to play, pretty damn good at dealing damage, flashy moves, a life saver when it comes to clutch heals or raises, since they have the dualcast mechanic, where their second spell is cast instantly with no casting time. so as long as you have the mp, you can raise 3-4 ppl within a few seconds.
since it is a dps job, you're gonna be focusing on damage than supporting the team, but when help is needed, you can save the party from a wipe.
bard and dancer provide some more party-wide buffs (and a "dance partner" with the dancer) while dealing damage.
with the triad being a thing, there's no real "hybrid" job. otherwise, i'd prob be playing whatever that would be
hope that helps. probably worth looking at the job guides on the ffxiv site as well. gives you a quick rundown on the skills and might give you a better idea of what you want out of a job.

What do you think of Zenos so far? A lot of people dislike him but I think he's a great character.
Folks dislike him? I thought he was badass. Though I guess he seems one-dimensional so far in the story, unless I'm missing something.

Honestly, you'll get to a point where you can just switch between them when you need it. The game is very encouraging of switching jobs, and all the healers are relatively homogenized.

Didn't care for him very much at first. I've come around to liking him a lot more by the time I finished Stormblood.
still don't care about lyse at all

The most common criticism I see regarding Zenos is that his character lacks depth, especially for a primary antagonist. I personally think his simple characterisation was a deliberate choice on the part of the developers (though I can't explain why without getting in to spoilers), and there’s plenty of emotional and thematic stuff to engage with in Stormblood’s other antagonists.

I can see that. I guess I just have to continue further in the story to really have a final opinion on him. But so far I don't really have any qualms about him, he's pretty cool.
At the end of the day, it's Final Fantasy. I'm not expecting the villains to be a Montresor or Iago.

Yeah, I don't think she's gonna grow on me. I hope I'm wrong, but she's just not interesting after her initial reveal and without Papalymo being there

Okay, what is it in these fights that has people progging for MONTHS?

Theres literally no break in the fight except for the 12th minute where you get a cutscene into the last phase, fight is also 18 minutes long and the mechanics are fast paced as s***
First and second phase are the hardest part of the fight, and its extremely easy to wipe too. Which means that if you want to learn phase 3 and phase 4 you have to go through those hard asf phases again. Doesn't help that they introduce the hardest mechanic the game has seen 8 minutes into the fight
Phase 4 is probably the easiest phase but the pressure is extremely high since you have just been fighting a boss for like 15 mins

you are far more dedicated than me. hope you guys get it soon
i'm slowly getting more and more friends playing so by the time endwalkers comes out, i'm hoping everyone is more interested in a doing the harder content.

Yeah I'm literally in too deep with this fight to stop now
Endwalker would be a good time to start too since jobs are getting redone and the new savage tier will be the first one, so theres probably going to be a lot of new players trying hard content for the first time
