That being said, is it better to move the capitalism vs communism/socialism discussion to the socialism thread unless its directly addressing how either impacts feminism/women? or does it still make enough sense to keep in here even if its generally about the political system

  • Aug 11, 2020

I have ppl in my family that lost their lives to imperialism u don't ever see me bring that up in discussions, because it's irrelevant

    I won't celebrate.

Biden sucks and since it's likely his VP is Kamala... No thanks.

i'm so tired of twitter libs being like "well if biden picks a woman vp maybe he isn't so bad..."

there are at least 50 equally qualified women who'd be a better pick than kamala and i'd rather have a man with good politics for vp than that pig lover any single day

If women aren't centered in the discussion it shouldn't be here imo.

Liberal feminism is a cancer to us imo. They're not trying to dismantle patriarchy, they want a woman as the face of it.

They did. An uncle of mine did a bunch of s*** in the black markets of European Communist countries, I had aunts that studied in Yugoslavia, one of my family members almost became an ambassador for Ethiopia in Cuba lol, and Ethiopia was a (at least nominally) Communist country as well so yeah. Plus I also know Ethiopians who became orphans due to war and were raised in Cuba and love Fidel so much that they want to change their last name to Castro and named their son Fidel.

I think it made Communism less spooky for me since I could just ask people in my family. Plus it made me aware of the fact that there's a lot of disagreement between Communists as well, because in Ethiopia most of the resistance against the Communist government was done by other Communists, it was the definition of leftist infighting. But eventually reactionary forces funded by the Saudis and US took over so it was all for nothing basically.

should probably take this somewhere else but honestly tammy duckworth would be a great move for the most voter appeal. karen bass would be my personal pick but seems unlikely given her too-progressive-for-dems past.

    Yeah early 90s.
Different reasons for why my parents left, dad left to study at a uni here, mom went for medical procedures that weren't of high quality in Ethiopia at the time, but stayed because the US/Saudi-backed govt that came to power while she was here very possibly would have murked her had she went back due to her political affiliations.

my girlfriend and her family have real pain from living under communism. I don't know anyone else who lived under communism, so my sources are limited, however, judging from her experience, I know a thing or two, and that is also partly what I base my position on. Her experiences fundamentally shaped my political position. Now I don't know how many people you know that lived under communism that you really know, but my guess is 0

Had to check Goodreads but The Sacred Hoop by Paula Allen might be worthy of adding to the OP even tho it's kind of controversial (talk of matriarchal societies)

Yes it should and this is a very disgusting reactionary post.

Identities as they are understood now are byproducts of the enlightenment and forces of imperialism and colonialism. The fact that race was invented in order to establish the superiority of white people is indicative of how identity politics is ultimately regressive. I don’t need to define my political alliances based on the colour of my skin, ethnicity or religious affiliations for example. These are already assumed. So in a sense defining myself as such is falling for an empty signification of what’s already there, which is politically passive and dangerous.

And again identities make it almost impossible to establish solidarity across class and gender, which obfuscates the very notion of intersectionality. What about white working class in places like the UK and the US? They have been alienated by the rhetoric of identitarian politics to the point where they were pushed to the far right.

Either you haven't done the reading on identity politics (literally posted it on the first page and someone else posted a Google docs link) or my earlier assumption is true.

The most general statement of our politics at the present time would be that we are actively committed to
struggling against racial, sexual, heterosexual, and class oppression, and see as our particular task the
development of integrated a***ysis and practice based upon the fact that the major systems of oppression are
interlocking. The synthesis of these oppressions creates the conditions of our lives.

Anyone disagree with the above? just wanna know

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E60eSWgrnM4Qt5-EIPhEyqyyOuPokEYQ/view?usp=sharing

That’s exactly what I was referring to when I wrote about the intersections of oppression

I’m quite aware. All I’m saying is that if we are to make progress, we will have to move well beyond identity. Isn’t a post-racial and post-gender global society the goal?

Now more than ever we need solidarity with each other regardless of identities to overcome systematic oppression that targets non-men, non-whites and non-heteronormative peoples, as well as climate change and other pressing socioeconomic problems such as migration
