The family of Saviay’a Robinson respect the jury’s verdict and appreciate the time and careful attention the jurors devoted to this case. The criminal justice system requires the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, a very high standard. The jury has spoken under that standard.

The civil case, however, is a separate proceeding governed by a different legal standard and focused on different issues. The standard under the civil system is a preponderance of the evidence or more likely that not. We feel there was ample evidence for a jury to find that Durk Banks was responsible for Mr. Robinson’s death under this standard.

Today’s verdict does not resolve our client’s civil claims with respect to Mr. Robinson. We remain committed to pursuing those claims through the civil justice system and to presenting the full evidence to a civil jury. We will respect the criminal jury’s decision while continuing to advocate for accountability and appropriate compensation for the harm Durk Banks’ actions have caused this family.
