They’re not jeans they’re just called that. I have them they’re trouser material. Try sizing up if they’re too tight. If you cop off Amazon you can return easily so worth trying

But the pics are deceiving. The chest and length measurements are either lower than or barely at the same level as my tightest (and oldest) jumper

Vintage Russells are a huge gamble, most of them shrink like a mf but sometimes they'll be TTS. If you're buying secondhand you could ask the seller for the actual measurements, that's really the only way.
Never had one but Jacob Wallace on YT said Lee hoodies are a good blank too if you're looking for vintage

I've never worn a pair of sweatpants and just bought my first pair earlier this month that I'm hoping to try on in the coming months so I might not have the experience to speak on this
