I agree I think it’s completely dumb
Unless he was looking for a quick payday
As soon as his LV hype dies, their gonna cut Virgil off as menswear director quick and be on his ass with Off White
he literally can’t just walk away smooth from LVMH,LVMH can literally leave him with nothing if they choose.

I mean.. I guess he could come up with something new but like…why give away your golden goose

Idk,I could definitely see him feeling like OW ran it’s course and he wants to focus on LV but at the same time, why not do a Bape and use the brand to make money? He doesn’t have to innovate OW anymore to make it sell,it has its audience. He has his reasonings for selling his stake but that doesn’t mean his reasons we’re that good.
Yall thoughts on virgil giving majority stake of off white to lv?
I just wanna know when black people are gonna prioritize ownership and stop selling everything we create/innovate to out of touch whites with old money

^^ lots of thoughts (negative), but this is a solid start

cherry picked from HB comments section, but sums it up:
"Virgil = New slaves
The difference between Ye and Virgil is that Virgil is a people’s/ relations guy. He’s non confrontational, behaves and Krackaz love a controlled non White. They love a controlled negro. Kanye is the exact opposite of that, sometimes to overly emotional to a fault, but for starters, Kanye actually has Black people on his team unlike Virgil. Kanye I’d unpredictable, Virgil isn’t. Most of those stolen designs don’t come from Virgils head, they come from his team of theives. He then uses his relations in the entertainment and sports industry and leverages it. Hate him or love it, he’s a masterclass on marketing and networking. He has literally built an empire, now owned by the White man with little to no talent, his built an empire from networking and marketing alone. He’s selling 48 pairs of the same Dunk because he has the blogs, celebs, networks, marketing machine and dollars to fuel the hype."

You expected something different from Virgil
dude finally feels accepted into the white establishment, that was always him and Ye’s end goal. Actually with Ye tho,I think he wised up and wanted to become a black mogul except on his own terms.

mans parading around, arms locked with Bella hadid cozy lol. Pushing 45, nails painted turquoise, dropping gimmick nikes for "the youth," giving faux intellectual "lectures" at whatever institute needs the PR clout, living out his paradise. He's fully assimilated into that world*. End goal realized, it is what it is.

Yep,he’s living Kanye’s old dream to the fullest. He’s set his self up to get f***ed over very easily if the powers that be decide to do so tho lol.

Thank you!
Can we for once just keep something lol

We've seen how quick LVMH pulled the plug on FENTY once the geezers realized offering "celebrity" isn't sustainable. You'd think they would've learned that from the Jennifer Lopez's of the world but I digress lol.
It's frustrating because he's generally reached a plateau that's a first for Black designers/creatives. I just wish folks would be honest, but unfortunately we all can't think for ourselves
Thank you!

Everything is based around hype and no black designer wants to be labeled urban so no.

I don’t think FENTY was given a real chance. I think if she was making music and promoting the clothes through that(also the pandemic)it would’ve stayed around longer. LVMH probably also didn’t like the fact that she had gotten thick lol

Yeahhh but then you're teetering a glorified, casual lifestyle a la Beyonce (failed) House of Dereon if you're relying on celebrity/relevancy/talents outside of fashion to keep the label afloat.
I may be wrong but I thought the goal with FENTY was to be taken "atelier serious" under the LVMH portfolio. Pandemic certainly sped up the dismantling. Wish Rih would've gotten more time to build, but she's up regardless lol.
Damn PayPal raising fees now too

FENTYS goal was definitely going to be an actual ready to wear high end streetwear line. It just wasn’t selling and it wasn’t selling because of lack of promo. Also, did House Of Dereon get sold anywhere else besides a J.C. Penney or some s*** lol, maybe I’m wrong but I think that’s where I remember seeing that brand.

The suits and looks in this Snoop video birthed the Balenciaga couture show this yr tbh

Then the breakdown was inevitable if the goal was do what Matthew for example is doing at Givenchy, "high end streetwear aesthetic."
And your team is comprised of the best of the best when it comes to tailors, CSM grads etc, good luck trying to copy/paste the energy of streetwear into a world far removed from what makes streetwear "streetwear" lol.
That was my point, on a much smaller, consumer friendly scale, we've seen House of Dereon, JLO, Zendaya, plethora of failed, celebrity incubator type fashion initiatives. LVMH really tried it infusing $$$ + building from the ground up. The campaigns were killer tho

I think brands think it’s easy to do streetwear cause it’s basically slapping a name on sneakers,t-shirts and hoodies to them except with LVMH,they wanted to elevate it. Too bad tho cause Rihanna’s audience aren’t hypebeast, here lingerie and makeup moving numbers tho, that’s her audience.
And as for all those cheap”if you buy this and wear it,your one step closer to being as good as me”celebrity type brands sold at Macy’s,Kohl’s or some s***,I gotta say this. True aspiration sales, people work to buy truly aspirational things and when your brand is aspirational, thats when you make money.
I think that’s why so many urban brands from black people just died, nobody aspired to wear those clothes.

agree with you on both counts, great point on the aspirational tip as well. That's a POV I haven't put enough thought on...thanks for that
I’m old af, but I just found out today about the “soft boy aesthetic” in fashion and honestly I’m ready to start beating all y’all asses for having no pride foreal.
When I first join KTT fashion we was dressed in all-black with ski masks, chains, and carrying knifes in our pockets for protection, and now y’all “SOFT BOYS”???? Nah, naaaaaahhhhh
