So, a world where he panders and a world where he doesn’t pander look the exact same
Both have popular and unpopular reviews, there’s no winning I guess
There’s nothing that can change your mind then, if you can’t falsify a belief it has no value

you’re correct. there is no winning because he’s in the perfect hipster intelligentsia where he can s*** on something popular and get minimal detraction for it because it’s something hipsters love to do to seem unique and counter culture, and he can simultaneously love popular albums because he has pre-established hipster taste that he can refer to for the more “artsy types”

a couple of choice examples of him s***ting on popular albums (which is often a safe thing to do among hipsters) doesn’t fully neuter the pandering argument whatsoever

    Hipsters are my enemy

    They scare me 😬

If you listened to lil baby you would know he did improve a lot as a pure rapper

He improved but he was never bad enough to warrant the s*** fantano said, it was beyond just opinion and him not liking the music, it was outright disrespect

It would be one thing if he said “he has some potential but I don’t like this” and then when he improved he came around. He basically asserted that there was zero potential or merit in Baby and Gunna, was super dismissive to the point he might as well have just called it “mumble (c)rap” and then flipped when Baby became undeniable and featured with “the right kind of rappers” for fantano. Just like he will soon flip again after seeing how much his fan base and the world love Pushin P

  • Jan 25, 2022

    He has fans?

  • Jan 25, 2022
    eye contact

    That’s literally it

I just watch the videos and go, I have no clue why people try to attach any weight to what he says. It’s just an opinion. Saying “fuck fantano” because he doesn’t like what you like or using his reviews to back up what you like is precisely what critics don’t like seeing

I don’t understand where these dudes are coming from at all. He hates almost all of my favorite albums but I never felt no ill will towards bruh at all.

Like yeah we all know RYM hipster culture is corny but where are y’all that y’all even encounter these types? They try to act like they’re so much better than why are y’all in the same spaces talking music

You have no way of determining whether this is just his music taste or not
This sounds like a personal issue ngl

  • Jan 25, 2022

Y’all are either exaggerating this or need to hang out/discuss stuff with more diverse groups of listeners outside of the internet especially

This isn’t some dominant fanbase and most people of his viewers aren’t crazed fans about the guy either

Yes, every opinion is a calculated power play, and not just his actual opinion.

That sounds totally rational and based on evidence. :)

this is with any and all critic publications, i don’t respect it and it’s very annoying

This a lame argument imo, we can’t even determine if he truly exists lol but that doesn’t mean we can’t draw conclusions from what we perceive

I wouldn't blame it on Fantano. I think that's the kind of people who are very active on the internet and the internet became a central part of our lives. If they weren't Fantano fans they would just be RYM / reddit / last.fm users who just talk about music like it's a objective thing and like there are "standards" for good music. This existed way before Fantano I remember all those 9GAG posts about how Nicki Minaj is not "real music". Elitists existed always and they always followed a wave.

Music is an objective thing to an extent, but the objective and subjective discussions are separate.

Facts he may actually not enjoy some albums genuinely but some hipsters online will take it seriously and start making arguments out of that

  • Jan 25, 2022

yeah not true, everyone still hyped Gunna despite the review, he doesn't have influence.

It's an objective thing when it comes to music theory and classical music not when it comes to pop music at this point it's just what the person likes to listen to.

yeah the whole “if you can’t falsify a belief it has no value” is reminiscent of enlightened atheist rhetoric, but that’s an entirely different topic that i don’t even wanna begin to pull apart

I feel like you’re thinking too deep on it. He didn’t like his projects but said his feature run was nice. Why does it have to be deeper than that?

Wayne’s last album was trash to me but I like the feature run he’s been on. I thought 4YEO and KOD were bad but I liked TOS.

Am I switching up or do I just like some stuff and not like other things. Y’all make everything so complicated for no reason other than internet brownie points.
