lol when is the last time you listened to Common as Light? that’s near the top of Koz discog for me and that’s not an unpopular opinion
Admittedly I only listened a couple of times when it came out, but I really didn't like it.
Will maybe give it another go but I'm not a massive fan of anything he's done since Benji. I liked some of Universal Themes I guess.
guess i'm weird cause my favorite kozelek's benji, universal themes and the albums with jesu

it’s def a sprawling and meandering album, but far from bad. def the best of his post Benji output other than maybe Universal Themes imo. this is how i’d rank Koz discog:
Benji
Universal Themes
Ghosts of the Great Highway
Common as Light and Love
April
Admiral Fell Promises
Among the Leaves
30 Seconds to the Decline
Jesu/SKM
This is My Dinner
Tiny Cities
(haven’t listened to I Also Want to Die in New Orleans enough to rank yet)
Never really got into Kurosawa. Which should I check out to try again? Chronological preferably.

Real for Universal Themes that's such an underrated joint. I wasnt huge on Common as Light but it seems like an album where your almost encouraged to make your own mix and skip around.
Mark Kozelek's S/T was also great and yes This Is My Dinner is by far his worst

damn i need to listen to the Koz s/t some more too, i forgot about that one
but yeah Universal Themes imo is the perfect transition album connecting his early work to the rambling, spoken word stuff. it should’ve gotten the same acclaim as Benji but people slept on it instead
This is My Dinner is like pretty ok, but i can’t imagine listening to it very often when i could listen to any other Koz album
