ArujiEven though it's Kayo Dot the album is actually more Modern Classical than Metal. tbf I've known the album for a little while because it has been loved by a few rym'ers i follow so I had more time getting into it.
The first track is imo the most accessible by far. You have rhythmic theme and all that drony soundscapes floating around that, which increase or release tension until the Black Metal final. The second track sort of builds on a semi-serial piano, weird vocals and somewhat surreal guitars near the end. The third track is extremely subdued and dark and desolate. Not really a masterpiece on it's own but quite a depressing mood piece. The last track is one I still have some issues getting into at times. It's just weirdld beautiful. Reminds me of NEU!s Lieber Honig. Overall an extremely depressing and detached album.
First two tracks def my fav. The buildups are incredible. Track 3 and 4 are just so odd though.

You should peep Maudlin of the Well if you havent, Toby's group before Kayo Dot. Havent jammed in a real minute but Bath and Leaving Your Body Map were really impressive.

It's just that his presentation is a lot different because he doesn't have some kind of resolution to his arc and mostly just ends up being a degenerate the whole way. In some ways, he is more like the Joker in TDK, just without the theatrics.
It was an interesting character study but there were some heinously corny scenes and dialogue that killed any prestige quality in it for me.
Also there's no way this version of "Joker" turns into any sort of criminal mastermind. Joker was hyperintelligent not just damaged and crazy.
