Which band/artist do you guys think made the biggest leap between album 1 and 2?
    biggest drop off?

    Neil
    Costello
Van Morrison if you exclude Them
    Yardbirds
    10cc
    Dylan
    Love
    Cale

having a much harder time thinking of real sophomore slumps tbh...i know you like it but i think Clash s*** the bed on the 2nd album, not a single standout on there compared to that classic debut.

    also;

    Red Krayola
    OMD
    Eno

this what it feels like everytime I bait with Beatles hate

    how the turntables have turned

  • if it counts, the quality improvement from Infinite to SSLP is huge but idk, Infinite to me just a borderline demo of Em tryna find his style (which he clearly didnt have on infinite).

Having a hard time thinking of sophomore slumps... plenty of instances where the debut is better but the sophomore still a classic or very good in its own right...

Probably cause artists with that trajectory don't have as much staying power and are more easily forgotten or maybe I just deleted all the slumps off my iTunes so I have no easy reference like I do for quality increases

Green River is my favorite also, but Bayou Country is when they “became” CCR

    my bloody valentine

    slump:
    NEU
    dr dre

I think Outkast made a big leap artistically with ATLiens. To go in a completely different approach with a more organic sound took a chance when they could have just doubled down with a great Southernplaya sequel.

Interpol are the masters of the drop off

    biggest jumps

    Nico
    Van Morrison
    Tim Buckley
    Kyuss
    Fugees
    Bruce Springsteen
to a lesser degree Nine Inch Nails but Pretty Hate Machine is awesome.

    slumps

    Lorde
    The Clash
    Red Krayola
    Sinnead O'Connor
    Meat Loaf
    Vince Staples
Type O Negative (I still like Bloody Kisses though)
    Guns 'n' Roses
King Gizzard & the Lizzard Wizzard
    Nas
to a lesse degree OutKast. ATliens might be my least favorite thing they've done that is not Idlewild.

Darkthrone had a huge jump in sound from Soulside Journey to Blaze in the Northern Sky. Not necessarily better or worse but I cant think of another band that changed so drastically off the jump like that.

NIN if we're not counting Broken

    Smashing Pumpkins

Cant think of anyone that completely fell off after album 1 right now
