probably because those are the respective decades that we both came of age as music nerds. the wave of classics starting 2003-4 is when i converted from young punk rap kid to full rock fan and goddamn am i getting flashbacks while making my list oracular spectacular, funeral, elephant, show your bones remember how amazing it felt going to a club and hearing Electric Feel when it was fresh

I think part of it is also just for me to look for music I can see myself actually wanting to play again and I feel like when I hear that track, it just sounds like some stock "dark/edgy" music moment in a movie.
